September 14 marks the start of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori | Māori Language Week — a time to celebrate te reo Māori and, most importantly, use it, share it and help it flourish. ✨
Under the theme Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language, the 2026 focus of Te Wiki is ‘Te Reo Towns’ - a celebration of the communities who have kept te reo alive, and an invitation for all of us across the motu to help it flourish into the future.
Being a ‘Te Reo Town’ is about participation and sharing a love for te reo Māori. Every consistent action, whether big or small, creates lasting change.
Each day has a theme designed to help you plan activities and bring te reo into different parts of your daily lives - at home, at work, and in your communities.
Whether it's learning a new kupu, using a greeting in te reo Māori, or sharing knowledge with others, each step helps ensure te reo Māori continues to be seen, heard and valued.
Remember, you don’t need to be fluent! This kaupapa is about participation over perfection.
Let’s use it. Let’s share it. Let’s keep te reo Māori flourishing — ake, ake, ake.
Check out the themes and sign up to join the Māori language movement and share what you’ll be doing for Te Wiki 👉 https://www.reomaori.co.nz/
