Isla's Road to Recovery

Isla's Road to Recovery Diagnosed with breast cancer 32 weeks pregnant. This is my story and a call for others to get checked

16/09/2026

Today was a full circle moment. I arrived nice an early for my 6.45am MRI guided biopsy and was greeted by the amazing nurse Emma.

Emma was the nurse that held my hand when I had my scan back in August 2023. She was the one that reassured me I would be okay. Now three years on she was there for me once again.

Results will take a few days, and i am hopeful it will be good news to share in a few weeks.

❤️❤️❤️

Having a village around us was such an important part of my cancer journey. I knew our family would need support during one of the most vulnerable times in our lives.

Facing cancer while also having a newborn meant there were countless appointments, uncertainty, stress, and emotions to navigate. We quickly realised we couldn’t do it all on our own.

Gather My Crew was an essential tool used through my journey. Recommended by my friend, this app meant people who genuinely wanted to help could. If you know someone or are someone going through cancer, i truly hope this is helpful to you.

A little perspective. 🤣
Life has thrown some pretty big challenges my way, but apparently I’m still no match for a doona cover.

Surely I’m not the only one who struggles with these things?

Over the next few weeks I will be sharing some insights of what I have learnt from my journey. I am hopeful this will be helpful to many who are starting the cancer journey, are in the thick of it or even post treatment.

Today i focused on why I share.

When Trevor and I were working out how we would tell everyone about my diagnosis, I knew very quickly that I wanted to document what I was going through in the hope that it would help others. Being a young adult who is pregnant, you never expect the word "cancer" to be part of your world. And so islasroadtorecovery was created.

The last few seconds of the video are quite emotional but I think its really important to hear, as that was a possible reality I was facing ❤️

Happy Father’s Day to my amazing husband, Trevor. ❤️

I get quite emotional on this day every year because it feels so incredibly special to be here, watching you with our amazing boys after everything we have faced together.

Bailey and Freddie love you more than words can say. You are such a wonderful Daddy and we are so lucky to have you.

We can’t wait to celebrate with you at dinner tonight.

We love you so much!

Three years ago today was such a pivotal moment in the beginning of my cancer journey. ❤️

We were still cherishing the birth of Freddie and celebrating a very special Father’s Day, being able to have cuddles with him outside the Special Care Nursery at Geelong Hospital was something we’ll never forget.

But the very next day, reality kicked in. As I brushed my hair, a clump came out. I brushed again… and more continued to fall.

I hadn’t completely processed the news that I actually had cancer. But suddenly, I was faced with the reality of a long journey ahead.

At the time, I remember asking myself, How am I going to do this?
I was scared, I was overwhelmed but I kept going.

Looking back today, I think… wow. I am so incredibly proud of that woman. I really did kicked cancer’s butt. 💪❤️

If you know someone who is about to start the journey please share this. ❤️

Yesterday I received a phone call from Lake imaging for my next MRI.

This MRI is a little different to the rest as it will also include a biopsy.

From my previous scans there is an area in my right breast behind the ni**le that the doctors want to investigate further. As its in a bit of a tricky spot the MRI is required to locate the area where they will then take the biopsy.

Pathology results will hopefully take a week or so after that, where i will see my surgeon and oncology team to discuss.

Let's hope for some good news soon.

Our little fighter Freddie has been through a lot in his first 3 years. A happy kid born in a sad time. Even from his very first moment, blocking a pair of glasses from landing in mummy's tummy, Freddie was having a positive impact. His infectious smile and bubbly nature was just what the doctor ordered.

From his time in the Special Care Ward after a tough arrival, to holding his mum's hand in the chemo chair and eventually helping her ring that bell, after the final session, our little Freddie has brought so much joy to our family and everyone who meets him. Even after his own major surgery and not being able to see for a while due to the swelling, that smile was an ever constant.

We look back at August 2023 as an incredibly sad and tough month, with one incredibly bright spot, the arrival of our now 3yo, Freddie Hilton Foy.

Happy Birthday little man 🥳

A little bit of fun tonight!

That time I dressed up as Britney for my chemo session.

Watch until the end and let me know… how did I do?
