At this year’s Empower Me Pink, we are proud to introduce something very special, the inaugural Services to People with Cancer Award.

This new award has been created to recognise an individual whose exceptional service, compassion and commitment has made a meaningful difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

So much of this work happens quietly, over many years, and often without recognition. We wanted to create a moment at Empower Me Pink to honour those whose dedication has had a lasting impact.

The inaugural Services to People with Cancer Award will be presented at Empower Me Pink on 18 September, beginning what we hope will become a very special Roll of Honour, recognising those whose service to people affected by cancer deserves to be celebrated.

We’re incredibly proud to have Forsyth Barr join us as the founding sponsor of this award and help us bring it to life.

Our first recipient will be revealed on the night. 💗

At 76 years young, Helen is taking on the Burpee Challenge as one of our incredible ambassadors.

Having been through chemo and cancer rehabilitation programmes, Helen shares a little of her personal story and motivation to take on the challenge.

“One of the regular activities I enjoyed before my cancer journey began, was to have regular walks. Sometimes with Maddie our miniature Schnauzer, friends or on my own.

The chemo knocked my energy, I lost my appetite and subsequently a lot of weight and I became bald. I was not coping, was quite depressed and teary which just wasn’t the usual ‘me’.

As a positive and outgoing personality, I wasn’t prepared for how chemotherapy would affect my daily life. So, imagine my delight that three months on from my last chemo infusion, my hair is growing, my weight is increasing, I am socialising and absolutely enjoying Pilates and regular walks. Family, friends and belonging to various organisations are what makes ‘getting up each day’ a pleasure.

I am so happy to share my story, if it helps even one other person.

Roll on the Burpee Challenge!”

On World Physiotherapy Day, we want to acknowledge the real life force behind our charity, the physiotherapists doing this work every single day.

They are at the heart of this work.
And this is not easy work.
They meet people at some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. They see the fear and the setbacks. They travel alongside people through the good scans and the bad scans, the breakthroughs and the disappointments.

And they celebrate the tiny victories that nobody else may ever know were victories.
The first walk around the block.
The first full day back at work.
Getting back on the bike.
Getting back in the ocean.
Simply feeling like themselves again.

For 20 years, our physiotherapists have been making that possible for people across New Zealand.

Today, we want to thank every physiotherapist in our network, past and present, who has brought their skill, compassion and commitment to this work.

You are the reason this Foundation has been able to make a difference in so many lives.
Happy World Physiotherapy Day. 💗

32 year old Georgia is living with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and is one of our awesome ambassadors for the Move Over Cancer Burpee Challenge!

With support through PINC & STEEL programmes, Georgia is still doing all the things she loves, with some new additions. Including currently being overseas to participate in Dragon Boating competitions in both France and Taiwan as a member of the Wellington CanSurvive dragon boat club.

“Without the funding available through PINC & STEEL I don’t know if I would have recovered as soon as I did. I believe the cancer rehabilitation has been a big help in getting me to the place I’m in today.

Cancer recovery and survivorship is a journey, and you can help more people get the support they need by supporting this cause.”

Will you join Georgia in supporting the Move Over Cancer Burpee Challenge?

Introducing The Burpee Challenge Nomination Hub!

Head to the hub to donate, nominate, and stitch up your mates.

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Donate to nominate. Nominate someone by writing their name in the message box with your donation.

2. Share your nomination. Send them a photo or screenshot of your donation, share on social media and tag your nominee.

3. They decide to MOVE or MATCH - or both!

MOVE: They complete the number of burpees nominated. $1= 1 burpee
MATCH: They match the donation equivalent to the nominating donation, and get out of doing the burpees

E.g. $50 donated = 50 burpees.
If they match your $50, no burpees required!

MOVE & MATCH: they do the burpees, match the donation and nominate someone else!

So, who will you nominate?

The lasting side effects of treatment shouldn’t be accepted as the cost of survival. No matter where you are in your recovery, it is never too late to begin rehabilitation.

Even though Cancer Rehab Awareness Week 2026 ends today, you can continue to help us raise awareness of the critical role that rehabilitation plays in regaining strength and quality of life following treatment.

Talk to someone you care about about cancer rehab, and together let’s make support part of every recovery story.

Exercise as part of recovery has been proven to improve cancer outcomes and increase longevity. Yet, the majority of people diagnosed with cancer, aren’t reaching the recommended levels of exercise to improve long-term health outcomes.

This week is Cancer Rehab Awareness Week. Share this post, start a conversation, and help us raise awareness of the key role of rehabilitation and exercise in cancer recovery.

Too many people finish cancer treatment and are left thinking fatigue, pain and weakness are just part of survival. They’re not.

Cancer rehabilitation can help people rebuild strength, manage symptoms, move with confidence and return to the things that matter most.

This Cancer Rehab Awareness Week, help us make cancer rehabilitation a standard part of cancer care.

Your recovery deserves support.
