We were proud to recently celebrate the official opening of Canopy Imaging’s new purpose-built PET-CT facility in Palmerston North, officially opened by Suze Redmayne MP for Rangitīkei on behalf of the Minister of Health. Also, in attendance to support the opening was Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith and MP for Palmerston North Tangi Utikere.

As the first permanent PET-CT service in Manawatū, the facility brings advanced molecular imaging closer to home for patients across the region and the lower North Island.

For patients and their whānau, this means improved access to this important diagnostic service, with less need to travel outside the region for PET-CT imaging.
It was wonderful to mark this milestone alongside members of our team, local healthcare professionals, community partners and those who helped bring the facility to life.

Most importantly, our PET-CT service is now up and running and welcoming patients at our Canopy Imaging Grey Street clinic.

Exciting news! Our brand-new PET-CT scanner has officially landed in Palmerston North.

The arrival of the scanner marks a major milestone in our new purpose-built PET-CT facility and brings us one step closer to opening our doors on 10 August 2026.

For patients and whānau across the lower North Island, this means improved access to advanced PET-CT imaging closer to home, helping reduce the need for long-distance travel during what can already be a challenging time.

With the scanner now on site, work can begin on the next phase of the project as we prepare to welcome our first patients and expand access to this important diagnostic service for our community.

We're excited to share more behind-the-scenes updates as the facility takes shape and we move closer to opening.

Coming Soon: The first permanent PET-CT scanner in Manawatū.

Canopy Imaging is proud to announce a significant investment in the future of healthcare for the region, with a purpose-built PET-CT facility currently under development.

Once operational, this advanced imaging service will provide patients with access to world-class molecular imaging closer to home, reducing the need to travel outside the region and helping improve access to timely diagnostic care.

This project introduces new specialist clinical capability to Manawatū and is being brought to life with the support of our local team, regional contractors and community partners.

Introducing Rhenium-SCT® Therapy - now available at Canopy Imaging Hawke’s Bay.

We’re proud to be the first provider in New Zealand to offer this innovative, non-invasive treatment for superficial non-melanoma skin cancers, including basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC).

Rhenium-SCT® uses a highly targeted radiotherapeutic paste to precisely treat cancer cells while minimising exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. Treatment is painless, completed in a single session (for most patients), and provides an alternative option where surgery or conventional radiation therapy may be unfavourable.

This advanced therapy may be particularly suitable for lesions in cosmetically sensitive areas such as the nose, lips, ears and face, or for patients can't have surgery.

We’re also excited to share that our first two patients have already been successfully treated, an important milestone in bringing next-generation skin cancer care to New Zealand.

Canopy Imaging is leading the way in sustainable healthcare with the installation of the MAGNETOM Vida Fit 3T MRI from Siemens Healthineers at our Ormiston Clinic in Auckland.

Traditionally the entire system would be removed and replaced, whereas the FIT process cleverly utilises the existing core magnet, with an infield rebuild of the system to the latest technology. This significantly reduces waste, conserves resources, and lowers the carbon footprint, while delivering faster, more precise scans and reducing energy use by up to 40%.
