It’s not too late to help children like Mabel.

Sign up to take part in the Big Bake Off this June and every dollar you raise could make life a little sweeter for sick and injured children in Starship, our national children’s hospital.

Children like little Mabel who, at only 11 weeks old, was airlifted to Starship for a life-saving bone marrow transplant. She spent months in hospital undergoing chemotherapy and living in isolation while her new cells began to grow.

After 108 days in hospital, Mabel is now home.

Mia is 11 years old. She spent 126 nights in Starship.

“Mostly it was good times,” she says. “But there were hard days too - like the day I found out I had cancer. Was I going to die, or was I going to live?”

Today, Mia is back at school and doing well.

A huge Warriors fan, Mia was excited to hear the NRL and the One NZ Warriors are teaming up this weekend to Kick for a Cause, raising vital funds for Starship’s Blood & Cancer Centre and the Child Cancer Foundation.

The One NZ Warriors popped into Starship to meet some smaller, real-life warriors this week, bringing joy, a few laughs and smiles.

Players clubs and fans will be joining together this weekend across the NRL Magic Round to ‘Kick for a Cause’, raising vital funds for paediatric cancer centres across Australia and NZ.

Funds raised by the NZ Warriors will support Starship’s Blood & Cancer Centre and the Child Cancer Foundation.

In celebration of International Nurses Day our Five Star Partners Barfoot & Thompson and Mercury surprised the Starship nurses with well-deserved treats! Starting the day with coffee, juice and pastries, followed by lunch deliveries, boxes of sweet treats, and dinner for the amazing night shift teams.

To all the incredible Starship nurses, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and care of New Zealand’s littlest patients and their whānau.
