Dame Dr Teuila Percival is South Seas Healthcare’s founding member and Deputy Chair, and a paediatrician at Kidz First. In the report, she highlights the disproportionate impact of this severe flu season on Māori and Pacific children and calls for stronger prevention, including free flu vaccination and greater primary-care support.

We’re proud to see our Deputy Chair and founding member, Dame Dr Teuila Percival, continuing to advocate strongly for the health of our children and families.

Speaking to RNZ about the significant pressure this year’s flu season is placing on children’s hospitals, Dame Teuila highlighted the disproportionate impact on Māori and Pacific children and the importance of stronger prevention and primary care support.

Another important reminder of why accessible, community-based healthcare matters.

Extra paediatricians are being drafted in and elective procedures are still being called off in the busiest flu season for Auckland's children's hospitals in years.

Well Child Wednesdays | Meet Fuifui

When you come along to our Wellbeing Hub in Ōtara, you’ll meet some of the lovely people who make up our Well Child team — including Fuifui.

Each Wednesday, we’re shining a light on the people behind our FREE Well Child Service and the mahi they do alongside our families and pēpē.

Talofa, I’m Fuifui. I have more than 10 years of experience within the Well Child team. I’m passionate about supporting families and making a difference in my community.

My days involve visiting families, providing health education and support, checking in on mothers and children, and connecting families with services when needed. What I enjoy most is building trusting relationships and helping families feel supported and empowered.

Happy Father’s Day!

As some of our team share, being a father is about showing up, guiding, protecting and helping shape the next generation.

Today, we celebrate you. Happy Father’s Day!

Walking into Father’s Day Weekend

As we head into Father’s Day weekend, we want to wish all the dads, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, and father figures across our South Seas community — a Happy Father’s Day Weekend.

We hope Sunday is filled with love, laughter and quality time with the people who matter most.

We thought we’d share a special Father’s Day message heading into the weekend! Happy first Father’s Day to our friend Critta too!

Talofa lava! I’m A*o Pesio Togia, a Registered Social Worker with our Well Child Service — and a proud mum of three.

I love supporting our fanau, mums and pepe to feel confident, connected and supported.

September 1st and it’s also Father’s Day week, so we’re going BLUE for the men we love.

Blue September is a reminder for our fathers, brothers, sons, uncles and friends to put their health first and talk to their GP about prostate health.

“Pacific men in Aotearoa experience a higher prostate cancer death rate than European/Other men — 20.6 compared with 15.6 deaths per 100,000, around 32% higher based on 2021 age-standardised data.” Ministry of Health NZ

Early conversations matter. Encourage the men in your life to kōrero with their GP about their prostate health.

Connecting Care, Strengthening Community
Through our South Seas Whānau Ora–Kāinga Ora Community Wellbeing Partnership, we’re proud to have launched our fortnightly Te Kupenga Community Sessions—bringing connection, wellbeing and support directly to our elders in the communities they call home.
Here are a few moments from our latest session.
A big fa’afetai and thank you to Kāinga Ora, and to Tātou Collective for working alongside us to help bring these meaningful community sessions to life.

Learning together, strengthening care.

Our regular Clinic Peer Review Sessions are a valuable opportunity for our clinical team to connect with external specialists, strengthen referral pathways, and stay informed about the services available to support our patients.

Thank you to Anastasia from Mediray and Telesia from Harbour Sport who joined our recent session.

It was also a great opportunity for our Samoa Long-Term Twinning Programme colleagues to join the discussion and gain further insight into how primary care and community services work together here in Aotearoa.

Better care for our communities.

WELL CHILD WEDNESDAY | Meet Asenati!

This week in our Well Child Wednesday Series, we’re introducing Asenati, one of the amazing people behind our Well Child Team at South Seas!

Talofa lava, I’m Asenati! I am a Social Worker with our Well Child Team.

One of the things I love most about my role is being able to supporting mothers and families through challenging times by connecting them to wider support services like MSD and other agencies so they can access the support they need.

Our Well Child service is about so much more than baby checks. We work together to provide wrap-around support for babies, mothers and their families.

Our Well Child service is FREE and here to support your pēpi and family every step of the way.
