Warm cups of tea. Favourite recipes. Familiar routines. The little things that help us feel safe, calm and connected.

Over the coming months, we’ll be sharing a series called Winter Comforts - favourite recipes, winter rituals, small comforts and traditions inspired by the people we care for every day.

To start the series, Auckland Homecare Manager Emma has shared one of her favourite winter staples, a simple pumpkin and kūmara soup that fills the house with warmth (and usually disappears pretty quickly too).

“Soup always feels like it was made for sharing.” - Emma

Winter can feel long for many older people, especially when colder days make getting out and about a little harder.

Often, it’s the small things that make the biggest difference. A warm home. A stocked pantry. A regular phone call. Someone noticing when things feel a little “off”.

During winter, small practical supports like checking the heater is working, dropping off groceries or sharing a hot meal can help someone feel safer, warmer and more connected.

We’ve shared 5 simple ways families can support older loved ones through the colder months 💙

Today we pause to remember and honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of all who have served our country.

On ANZAC Day, we reflect with gratitude on the stories, strength, and resilience of our veterans — many of whom we are privileged to care for and learn from each day.

Lest we forget.

Stay steady on your feet ⚖️💛

Gentle exercises can improve balance, strengthen muscles, and help prevent falls — all while keeping you active and confident at home.

Here’s a simple routine you can try:

⏰ 5 mins – Warm-up: march on the spot, shoulder rolls, gentle arm swings
⏰ 15–20 mins – Balance exercises:
• Stand on one foot (hold a chair for support) – 10–15 sec each side
• Heel-to-toe walk along a hallway or room – 10 steps forward and back
• Side leg raises – 10 reps each side
• Sit-to-stand from a chair – 10 reps
⏰ 5 mins – Cool down & stretch: calf stretches, gentle neck and shoulder rolls

Even a few minutes each day can make a big difference in staying steady and confident!

Just 30 minutes of gentle movement each day can support a healthy heart. 💓

Regular exercise can help lower blood pressure, improve circulation, and boost overall wellbeing — and it doesn’t have to be complicated.

Here’s a simple 30-minute routine to try at home:

⏰ 5 mins – Gentle warm-up: march on the spot, shoulder rolls, easy arm swings
⏰ 10 mins – A comfortable walk around the house, garden, or down the street
⏰ 10 mins – Light strength exercises:
• 10 wall push-ups
• 10 seated bicep curls (use light weights or water bottles)
• 10 seated squats - sit on a chair and stand up

⏰ 5 mins – Cool down & stretch: calf stretches, neck rolls, deep breathing

Small daily steps can lead to big health benefits. 💙

If your loved one needs a little encouragement or support to stay active, our team is here to help.
