Rotuma Language Week (Gasav Ne Fäeag Rotuạm Ta) marks the start of the 2026 Pacific Language Weeks.

The 2026 theme for Rotuma Language Week is "Ȧf'ȧk, putua, a'pumuạ'ȧk ma rak'ȧk 'os fäega ma 'os ag fak Rotuma, la se maoen 'e 'os tore" - Treasure, nurture and teach our Rotuman language and culture so it may live on through generations.

Rotuma is a small group of islands north of Fiji and was once known as Siria, associated with the star Sirius, which holds spiritual significance in Rotuman culture — a reminder of the deep connections between language, place, and identity.

Brain injuries don’t always look like what we expect. Falls are still the leading cause, and around 36,000 people in Aotearoa experience a traumatic brain injury each year. Many of these symptoms are invisible to others.

This month is a reminder to stay curious, reduce assumptions, and support those living with symptoms that aren’t always seen but definitely felt.

Spot the signs:

- Feeling “off” or foggy
- Headache or dizziness
- Trouble concentrating
- Light/noise sensitivity

Today is International Women’s Day.

The healthcare and disability sector would look very different without our incredible Mana Wāhine, and so would Drake Medox. From our nurses and support workers to our coordinators and clinicians, the women across our organisation play a vital role in supporting our kiritaki and their whānau.

Some of them are pictured here and today feels like the perfect day to celebrate them.

Adaptive sailing is back on the water in Auckland this week, with the 2026 SKUD 18 International Match Race Challenge starting today proudly supported by Drake Medox.

Coming off the buzz of SailGP Auckland 2026, this event brings genuine quality racing and a lineup of athletes who know how to put on a show in the SKUD 18 class. It’s competitive, it’s focused, and it’s a great watch from the shore.

What gives the event extra importance is its role in the wider push to bring sailing back to the Paralympic Games for Brisbane 2032. The work happening behind the scenes (and on the water) is shaping the future of adaptive sailing.

Our leadership team were honoured to attend the opening of the Laura Fergusson Trust’s newest spinal injury transitional home in Tāmaki Makaurau.

For nearly 60 years, the Laura Fergusson Trust has supported people with physical disabilities to live with dignity, independence and confidence. This new home continues that legacy by offering a welcoming, accessible environment where people can continue their rehabilitation, rebuild confidence and move forward with greater independence.

We know the positive impacts this home will on the disability community, and we are thrilled for what’s to come.

Ka rawe, Jono! We are so proud of you.

Making information accessible helps disabled people participate in everyday life. Our all-of-government intern Jono is proud to be doing his part.

This summer, Jono has helped develop guidance for government agencies on creating accessible information for disabled people, including alternate formats. He’s also been supporting work to build our Te Tiriti o Waitangi capability.

“The work feels meaningful, especially knowing that accessible information can make a real difference to the lives of disabled people,” says Jono.

“My colleagues have been so supportive too, from helping me navigating tricky doorways to making sure the basics, like water, are always within reach.”

When barriers are removed, disabled people can thrive at work. That’s what this internship programme is all about.
