You just sit there. That is literally it. ๐Ÿง–

Prof Grant Schofield writes for Stuff on why the sauna might be the least hard hard thing you can do for your health and why unlike most wellness trends the science actually backs this one up.

The sauna is an ancient ritual thatโ€™s made a modern comeback with the wellness movement. But unlike some โ€˜health hacksโ€™, there is solid science to back sauna up.

If your 80-year-old self could talk to you now, what would you want them to thank you for?

The decisions you make today are the ones your future self will either thank you for or wish you had made differently. Take a moment. Sit with that question honestly.

Other people matter. More than we give them credit for.

We're deeply social creatures. We don't like to let others down, which is why even one person holding you accountable dramatically increases the chance you'll follow through. And every time someone notices a win, however small, your brain releases dopamine. That makes the new habit more likely to stick.

So have a look around. Who talks about the person you're becoming, not just the person you've been? Who says "you've got this" when you share the plan?

Those are your people. Spend more time with them.

And here's the flip side. Be that person for someone else. Ask questions. Listen. Celebrate their small wins. I'll tell you what, it ends up making your day too.

What if the explosion in anxiety and depression diagnoses is actually something else?

Prof. Grant Schofield and Prof. Julia Rucklidge land on something important. A lot of what gets diagnosed as anxiety or depression might be psychological distress driven by a reward system that has simply been overwhelmed and burnt out.

Dopamine. Stimulation. Constant hits from food, screens, stress. Just enough to keep going but never enough to actually feel good. And then you stop bothering altogether.

We need to look at all the ways our reward system is being influenced and start asking harder questions before we reach for a diagnosis.

What if you could only exercise for five hours a week?

Most advice gives you a minimum. Try flipping it. Set yourself a maximum, then spend it carefully. A limit makes you choose what's actually worth your time.

On the latest Prevention is Cure, Prof. Grant Schofield & Sam Schofield share how they'd spend their time if they only had a five hour budget. Grant also gets into strength vs cardio, recovery, and whether you really can outrun a bad diet.

What's your five-hour budget? Tell us in the comments.

There is no easy path through life. And that includes your health. ๐Ÿ’š

Looking after yourself is hard. So is living with the consequences of not doing it. Either way there is a hard. The only question is which one you choose.
Prof Grant Schofield joined The Next Bit Podcast for a full hour on health, choice, and what it actually takes to stay well for longer. The conversation covers the difference between lifespan and healthspan, cutting through nutrition myths, and practical steps you can take right now across food, movement and sleep.

If you have been putting your health off until things slow down, this one is worth your time. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

โ€œI looked at PREKURE for many years, procrastinating, because I felt like I wasnโ€™t good enough.โ€

Sound familiar? Stacey did too. And then she did it anyway. ๐Ÿ’š

Now a Master Health Coach specialising in supporting women from postnatal to perimenopause, Stacey helps clients align their insulin and s*x hormones to make sustainable lifestyle change actually work for their bodies.

A great health coach, in Staceyโ€™s words, needs empathy rather than sympathy. The ability to listen, reflect, and walk alongside someone through their journey. That is a skill you can learn. And PREKURE is where you learn it.

If you have been sitting on the fence, this is your sign JUMP THE FENCE! ๐Ÿ™Œ Explore our study options, link in the first comment!

Fitness is medicine, and most of us are badly under-dosed. On a recent episode of Prevention is Cure, the PREKURE team sent in their questions on training, recovery and longevity. Here's what I actually think. You've got a limited number of heartbeats When I was in sixth and seventh formโ€ฆ

The stories we tell about ourselves become the cage we live in.

"I am not a morning person." "I am lazy." "I am not very smart."

Dr. Louise Schofield teaches that identity is not fixed. It is built, belief by belief, behaviour by behaviour. And one of the most powerful tools for change is something deceptively simple.

Reframe the story.

Instead of attacking the old belief head on, try replacing it with "I am the kind of person who..."
Because behaviour follows identity. When you start seeing yourself differently, you start acting differently. That is not positive thinking fluff. That is the science of behaviour change.

What belief are you ready to rewrite? Drop it in the comments ๐Ÿ‘‡

Fitness is medicine. Most of us are under-dosed. This episode is the prescription.

Prof. Grant Schofield sat down with the PREKURE team to answer their biggest questions on fitness as medicine, and nothing was off limits.

Strength vs cardio. How much is enough. Overtraining vs under-recovery. Why not training is the ultimate easy now, hard later decision. Whether 10,000 steps is a myth. And yes, why under certain endurance conditions you can outrun a bad diet.
Oh, and if you ride in a group? Leave your ego in a brown paper bag on the kitchen counter before you head out.
