Ngā mihi o te wā Matariki.
As we enter the week of Matariki celebrations take some time to ‘titiro whakarunga/ gaze up’ at Matariki and look toward Hiwaiterangi/ Hiwa, the youngest star in the nine star cluster. It is the star to send your wishes to (Celaeno). It is the star our ancestors sent aspirational thoughts to in hope of their realisation.
The rising of Matariki is occurring between 13-16 July 2020.
The time after the rising of Matariki is an important time to plan and set goals. The size, position and clarity of the stars within the cluster help to predict conditions for food gathering and growing seasons ahead.
In these modern times it is also timely to plan for how we want to feel, move and do in the warmer months ahead.
Hauora/ Te Whare Tapa Whā in essence is an approach towards some semblance of balance through self-awareness. It pays attention to the four walls/ dimensions of our physical (tinana), mental (hinengaro), spiritual (wairua), and social wellbeing (whānau).
