The tint in lenses is not correlated to UV protection. It's important to have 100% UVA/UVB blocking which comes in both light and dark lenses! ☀️

Here at OCULA Howick Village we are extremely proud of our Dispensing Optician team. There are some familiar faces in the photo - Elise, Anette and Tania, and our new Practice Manager, Emma joins the team! With an amazing 95 years of combined experience!

Some people are unaware of the amazing skillset these ladies have. Dispensing Opticians are trained in the science and art of Ophthalmic Dispensing.

They learn how to:

👓 Read and interpret prescriptions
🤓 Dispense progressives, bifocals and speciality lenses
📐 Take measurements including pupillary distance, vertex distance and wrap angles to make sure the prescription is accurately placed in front of the eyes
🔬 Neutralise and verify lenses
👁️ Understand lens optics and how they affect vision
🧮 Calculate and manage prism
🔧 Fit, adjust and troubleshoot eyewear
🥸 They love having fun choosing the correct frames to match the prescription too. They may suggest a real change in image, don’t be afraid to be daring!

Optometrists diagnose and treat the eye. Dispensing Opticians take that prescription and turn it into properly fitted eyewear.
