Many organisations view flu vaccinations as a seasonal wellbeing initiative. However, growing evidence suggests influenza infection can significantly increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes, particularly among individuals with existing cardiovascular risk factors.

For large organisations managing multiple sites and thousands of workers, reducing illness isn't just about wellbeing. It's about resilience, continuity, and reducing operational disruption.

How does your organisation approach winter health risks?

Winter illnesses don’t just impact individual employees; they can affect productivity, team performance, customer service, and business continuity across an entire organisation.

The flu remains one of the most common causes of workplace absenteeism during the colder months, and because it is highly contagious, it can spread quickly through teams if preventative measures are not in place.

Proactive flu vaccination means fewer sick days, reduced disruption to operations, improved productivity, and a healthier workforce.

If you haven't organised flu vaccinations for your team yet, it's not too late. There is still time to help reduce the impact of seasonal illness on your people.

Talk to LifeCare about our flu vaccination options: On-site or vouchers.

At Project Sunrise, we’re really open about the fact that we’re not mental health professionals or GPs.

We’re a community of peers offering an ear to listen and friendly faces to help you feel less alone.

But we want to support our volunteer community leaders in recognising signs of mental distress and knowing how to respond should a mental health crisis arise at one of our events.

So on 14th May, four of our community leaders will be undertaking LifeCare's Mental Health 101 training to build their mental health first aid skills.

They’ll learn to spot the signs and symptoms of poor mental health and how to recognise when someone is struggling and how to respond appropriately.

Want to join us? The training is happening at LifeCare’s facility:

📍 LifeCare Penrose, Auckland
⏰ 8:00am – 12:00pm
🗓 Thursday 14th May

A smarter way to build resilient workplaces
The future of Health & Safety is predictive, not reactive.

Organisations that lead in this space are:

• Using data to guide decisions
• Identifying risks before incidents occur
• Taking a proactive approach to mental wellbeing

The Kessler 10 is a simple but powerful tool that fits into this shift.

In just a few minutes, it provides a structured way to understand and act on psychological wellbeing across your workforce.

👉 Final thought: If mental health is a risk… what systems do you have in place to manage it?

Supporting your people starts with a conversation
Behind every score is a person.

The Kessler 10 isn’t about labelling, it’s about opening the door to support.

Used correctly, it can:

• Encourage safe, confidential conversations
• Connect employees to EAP or professional support
• Show your team that their wellbeing genuinely matters

And often, that first step is the most important one.

👉 Reflect: Would your people feel comfortable asking for help today?

From wellbeing initiative to a measurable strategy

Many organisations invest in wellbeing programmes… but how do you know if they’re actually working?

The Kessler 10 allows you to:

✔ Establish a baseline
✔ Track changes over time
✔ Measure the impact of your initiatives

Because wellbeing shouldn’t just be a 'nice to have', it should be measurable, trackable, and actionable.

👉 For HR and H&S leaders:
Are your wellbeing initiatives delivering real insights, or just good intentions?

By the time stress becomes visible, it’s often already impacting performance, safety, and engagement.

Early detection = better outcomes

The Kessler 10 helps shift organisations from reactive → proactive.

✔ Identifies early warning signs
✔ Supports timely intervention
✔ Prevents escalation into more serious issues

It’s a short, 10-question tool that provides a snapshot of psychological wellbeing. A powerful starting point for action.

👉For leaders:

What would change if you could spot risk earlier?

What can’t be seen can still be measured.

Mental health risks don’t always show up in incident reports… but they are there.

The challenge for leaders? You can’t manage what you can’t see.

That’s where tools like the Kessler 10 (K10) come in, a simple, evidence-based questionnaire that helps identify early signs of psychological distress such as anxiety and depression.

In just a few minutes, you gain insight into what might otherwise go unnoticed.

If you're responsible for your team’s wellbeing, ask yourself:

Are we relying on assumptions… or actual data?
