Toi Ora Live Art Trust Enriching lives through creativity, connection and community, our Grey Lynn studio offers people facing mental health challenges free creative classes.

Toi Ora is an award-winning arts organisation that provides innovation and leadership in the field of mental health recovery. Our aim is to promote social, intellectual and creative pursuits that enrich people's lives. We work towards the destigmatisation of mental health issues, thus encouraging social change. Toi Ora provides tutored workshops and classes for people to develop their strengths and potential in the arts in a safe, non-institutional environment. We wish to bridge the gap for those who come into contact with mental health/addictions and other support services, with the exploration of creativity as a proven means to enhance recovery and maintain well-being. The emphasis at Toi Ora is on the creative process however, for many artists the opportunity to exhibit and perform is very important. Toi Ora provides opportunities for performance and exhibition of artwork on the premises as well as providing information about exhibition opportunities in the broader community.

"Mosaics is taking something broken and creating something new" πŸ’œ

Artist Sherie Crosby explains about her artwork which features a hook, an octopus and a hammerhead shark.

It's based off the whakatauki: Kaua e mate wheke, me mate ururoa l Do not die like an octopus, die like a hammerhead shark.

A whakatauki and a piece of art about resistance and resilience, and not to give up. πŸ₯Ή

We love this Sherie, and agree: What apt piece to share during Mental Health Awareness Week πŸ’œ

And p.s you can see this and many more at our Mosaic exhibition on till 4 November

Happy Mental Health Awareness Week, whānau πŸ’œ

This year's theme is belonging, and what brings people together more than the arts? And a concert where everyone shares in the joy of knowing the words and singing along

We were lucky enough to be selected as one of the charities supported by Noah Kahan and the Busyhead Project on the Auckland leg of his world tour.

Thanks for having us, we so enjoyed it, and meeting so many fans 🐞🐝🌼
