💡 Did you know there’s food science behind every Nutri-Bite?

It’s more than mixing ingredients and baking treats. Our ingredients have been carefully selected to complement one another and the added nutritional ingredients in each variety — creating our unique Nutri-Bites recipes.

Temperature matters, too. Excessive heat can diminish heat-sensitive nutrients, so we use controlled heating temperatures with nutrient preservation in mind.

This is why they are so unique. It’s by no means an easy process, and there is a lot of know-how behind each batch! We are very grateful to have the knowledge and research of food science behind us.

Every ingredient and every step has a purpose; a little treat with plenty of thought behind it.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes giving our Nutri-Bites packaging a fresh new look, and we’re so excited to finally share it with you!

Full of colour and personality, our new packaging captures the heart of Health Horse—fun, thoughtful and proudly NZ made and owned.

The new bags will be rolling out soon, so keep an eye out when you shop online or visit your favourite stockist. You may see both packaging styles during the changeover—it’s all part of welcoming in our fresh new look! 🤍

We’ve been hard at work redesigning our Nutri-Bites packaging and giving our website a fresh new look—and we’re so excited to share what’s coming!

From our colourful new labels to updated product pages, we’ve put plenty of thought and heart into every detail, making it easier to explore our range and get to know what’s inside your horse’s favourite treats 🤍

As we finalise our new packaging and send the designs off to print, we can’t help but look at the mock up of our products and have a wee moment!

👀 Okay… it was definitely time for a glow up.

We’ll admit it — we’ve never really pushed our Nutri-Bites.

They’ve ticked along in the background, doing their thing, while Health Horse has grown around them and the StayBall took centre stage.. I don’t think anyone was quite prepared on how BIG that would become!

But over the last few years, we’ve come SO far… so it was about time our Nutri-Bites came with us! 🥹

They’re certainly one of a kind after all….

So we’ve given the entire range a BIG refresh.

Thinking out loud.. Does anyone else ever feel like the more you achieve, the harder it is to actually feel like you’re achieving anything? What do you do about it?

As we head into the busiest part of the year, everything just feels… hard. And I’ve been trying to work out why.

I think part of it is that the bar just keeps getting set higher and higher.

Something that would have made you SO proud a year ago becomes normal, and suddenly it’s not enough anymore. You reach the thing you were working towards, barely acknowledge it, and immediately move the goalposts again.

What was “doing really well” yesterday somehow becomes the bare minimum today.

Maybe sometimes we’re not actually going backwards or losing motivation. Maybe we’ve just forgotten how far the goalposts have already moved.

So this is your reminder (and mine) to give yourself a little bit of credit, celebrate the wins and treat yourself every now and then…

Or better yet, treat your horses. We all know that’s where the money was going anyway 😂

Is your horse spooky at shows?

New venue. New horses. Flags. Loudspeakers. Lots of people.

Naturally, when our horse feels more reactive or spooky away from home, we put it down to the change in scenery.

But have you ever thought about what else has changed?

Their environment.

At many showgrounds, horses are staying in stables that have been used by hundreds of horses before them. Old bedding, leftover hay and feed, dust, damp conditions and poor ventilation can create an environment where moulds and their mycotoxins may be present.

And mycotoxin exposure isn’t just something to think about in feed.

Depending on the type and level of exposure, mycotoxins can affect horses in a number of ways, including their gut health, appetite, immune system and general wellbeing — all things that can influence how comfortable and settled a horse feels.

So that horse who suddenly seems:
• more reactive
• tense or unsettled
• reluctant to eat or drink normally
• generally “not themselves” away from home

…may not simply be overwhelmed by the atmosphere.

Of course, spookiness has many possible causes, and you can’t look at a spooky horse and conclude that mycotoxins are responsible. But their stable environment is one of those easily overlooked pieces of the puzzle.

💡 Our show tip: Remove old bedding and leftover feed where possible, use fresh clean bedding, maximise ventilation, keep forage off contaminated floors and pay attention to any musty or mouldy smells.

But most importantly, feed GUT GOODIES…

At shows, things change

At home, my horses have access to fresh grass most of the day, so I don’t automatically feel the need to load their feed with extra vitamins and minerals every day.

But when we’re away competing, they’re predominantly eating hay and have much less access to fresh grass.

That’s when I give Nutri-Bites!

As hay can contain much lower levels of certain vitamins than fresh pasture, particularly vitamin E. Our Nutri-Bites give me an easy way to provide additional nutritional support while their normal diet and routine have changed.

They help support normal energy metabolism, muscle function and overall wellbeing, without needing to add to a feed just to get supplements into them.

And at a show, where some horses can be fussier about eating than they are at home, being able to simply hand them their daily Nutri-Bites as a treat is a massive bonus, especially when we are regularly checking on them.

It’s not always about supplementing everything, every day. It’s about supplementing strategically when their diet needs change. At a show, this is paramount!

Because apparently hay, grass, two feeds a day, supplements, a custom-fitted saddle, regular physio, dentistry, new shoes and your entire disposable income still isn’t enough. 😂

Your horse would also like to formally request:

Nutri-Bites — because heaven forbid they receive their nutritional support without being personally hand-fed something delicious.

The $400 worth of supplements in their feed are suspicious, but apparently the same sort of goodness delivered as a treat is ✨acceptable✨.

A StayBall — because apparently they need entertainment — particularly at 3am, when they have finished their hay and have begun considering which part of the stable they’d like to eat next.

Without a StayBall, they may create their own activities, such as:
• Rug removal
• Fence testing
• Bucket throwing
• Stable renovations
• Chewing things that cost significantly more than the StayBall
• Developing a sudden emotional crisis because their friend moved approximately 3 metres away

And obviously the StayBall must be hung correctly, because your horse has standards.

Meanwhile, you’re standing there in the same pair of riding tights you bought three years ago thinking:

“Do I really need to spend more money on this horse?”

No.

Will you?

Absolutely. 😂

At least with Health Horse, you can tell yourself it’s for their nutrition, enrichment and wellbeing…

…rather than admitting that your horse has you “Buy the Balls”. 😂
