🌟 Understanding Concussion Care and Recovery Tips 🌟
Did you know that a concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that affects millions each year, and recovery can be a deeply personal journey? Whether you're an athlete or had a slip at home, knowing how to care for your brain post-injury is crucial. Here are some key steps from our specialists at Concussion Care:
🔹 Rest and Recuperate: Your brain needs rest to heal! Ensure you get plenty of sleep and avoid activities that strain your cognitive functions.
🔹 Hydration and Nutrition: Drink plenty of fluids and eat a balanced diet. Nutrition plays a key role in healing.
🔹 Professional Care: Always consult with a healthcare professional. Concussion symptoms can be subtle and not immediately apparent.
🔹 Tailored Rehabilitation: Depending on your symptoms, treatments like chiropractic care, vestibular therapy for balance, or even hyperbaric oxygen therapy might be recommended.
🔹 Monitor and Adapt: Be vigilant about your symptoms, and adjust your recovery plan as needed with the help of your healthcare provider.
🔹 Gradual Return to Activities: Slowly reintroduce daily activities under guidance. Rushing can prolong recovery.
💡 Remember, each concussion is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. Our team at Concussion Care is dedicated to providing personalised recovery plans to help you return to your best self.

**"Your scan is clear."**

For many people, those words are reassuring.

But for others, they can be confusing - especially when they're still living with headaches, dizziness, brain fog or fatigue weeks or months after a concussion.

A normal CT or MRI doesn't always explain ongoing concussion symptoms.

That's because concussion often affects **how the brain functions**, and those changes aren't always visible on routine imaging.

If you've ever felt dismissed because your scan was "normal," you're not alone.

Your symptoms are real, and they deserve to be understood.

At Concussion Care, we take a comprehensive approach to understanding why symptoms may be persisting and what the next steps in rehabilitation might look like.

If you're still not feeling like yourself after a concussion, we'd be happy to talk through your situation.

**This Week in Clinic**

One of the things I enjoy most about my work is listening to people's stories.

This week I met three different people.

Three different injuries.

Three very different lives.

But they all said something remarkably similar:

*"I was told I'd recovered... but I still don't feel like myself."*

One person was struggling with headaches.

Another found busy environments overwhelming.

Another was dealing with ongoing fatigue and brain fog.

Every concussion is different, but one pattern I see time and time again is people questioning themselves because their symptoms don't fit the timeline they expected.

If you're still experiencing symptoms after a concussion, it's worth understanding why.

Sometimes the next step isn't simply waiting longer—it's getting a more comprehensive picture of what's may be contributing to your ongoing symptoms.

If this sounds familiar, we'd be happy to talk through your situation.

*"I honestly thought I was a hopeless case."*

Those are Jacob's words.

After living with post-concussion syndrome for four and a half years, he'd reached the point where he believed things were never going to improve.

Like many people we meet, he'd tried to push through, adapt to his symptoms and accept that this might simply be his new normal.

But recovery doesn't always follow a straight line.

Sometimes, even years after the original injury, there are still opportunities to better understand what's contributing to ongoing symptoms and explore rehabilitation options.

Today, Jacob's story is one of hope. "Over the span of 4 years I had a lot of ups & downs with a mild concussion. I was treated by both Dr Chad Gordon and Dr Gary Dennis - both were great. Their rehabilitation process has changed my life, not only for the concussion symptoms, but learning how to rest and look after myself properly."

Stories like Jacob's remind us that everyone's recovery journey is different.

If you've been living with ongoing concussion symptoms for months—or even years—don't assume you've run out of options.

We're here to listen, assess your situation and discuss whether our approach may be appropriate for you.

Have you ever walked into a supermarket and suddenly felt completely overwhelmed?

The bright lights.

The constant movement.

The noise.

The decisions.

Then, before you've finished your shopping, all you want to do is leave.

If this sounds familiar after a concussion, post-concussion syndrome or Long COVID, you're not imagining it.

Busy environments place a high demand on your brain and nervous system. For some people, visual and vestibular overload, along with changes in nervous system regulation, can make everyday places feel exhausting.

The important thing to remember is this:

You're not "just anxious."

Your symptoms are real, and they can provide valuable clues about what's happening in your recovery.

If everyday environments are still affecting you weeks or months after your injury, it may be worth having a comprehensive assessment.

Myth vs. Fact - Returning to Activities
Myth: You can return to normal activities as soon as you feel better.
Fact: Even if symptoms improve, it's crucial to follow a healthcare provider’s guidance on gradually resuming activities to prevent further injury or prolonged recovery. Patience is essential for proper healing. 🧠⚠️

People often ask me why I chose to dedicate my career to concussion rehabilitation.

The answer is simple.

Because I've lived it.

I've experienced multiple concussions myself and I understand how frustrating, confusing and isolating recovery can be.

I also know what it's feels like when people expect you to be "back to normal" long before you actually are.

That experience changed the direction of my career.

I wanted to create the kind of clinic I wish had existed when I was going through my own recovery.

A place that looks beyond the initial injury.

A place that takes the time to understand why someone is still experiencing headaches, dizziness, brain fog, balance problems or fatigue months after their concussion.

A place that treats every person as an individual because no two concussions are the same.

That's why I founded Concussion Care.

Every day, we meet people who have been told they're recovered but still don't feel like themselves.

If that's you, I want you to know that you're not alone—and there may be more we can do to help understand what's contributing to your symptoms.

If you're still struggling after a concussion, we'd be happy to talk through your situation.

"I was deemed recovered by ACC... but I knew I wasn't." - Claire. A.

For many people, the end of funding doesn't mean the end of their symptoms.

Headaches.
Brain fog.
Dizziness.
Fatigue.
Difficulty concentrating.

These challenges can continue long after you've been told you should have recovered.

Claire's story is one we hear more often than many people realise.

If you've been discharged but still don't feel like yourself, know that you're not alone.

At Concussion Care, we take the time to understand what's contributing to your ongoing symptoms and discuss whether our approach may be appropriate for you.
