A thoughtful project by a local student has brought smiles, memories, and meaningful connections to residents at St Andrew's Village.

As part of an NCEA Health assessment, 16-year-old April, a Year 12 student from Glendowie College .college , set out to explore ways to promote wellbeing and reduce loneliness among older adults. Inspired by seeing the impact of loneliness on both family members and young people in her community, she created an intergenerational letter-writing project linking local primary school students with residents at St Andrew's Village.

Two classes of children aged nine to eleven were invited to write letters introducing themselves, sharing their interests, and asking residents about their own experiences and memories. The project encouraged connections across generations while helping students better understand the importance of social connection and the effects of loneliness.

In total, 56 letters were hand-delivered to residents in the Care Centre and Care Suites at St Andrew's Village. The letters sparked conversations, revived cherished memories, and brought genuine joy to those who received them. April was delighted to see first-hand the positive impact of the project and hear the stories and memories inspired by the children's letters.

The initiative proved to be a rewarding experience for everyone involved, fostering meaningful connections between two local communities and demonstrating how a simple act of kindness can make a real difference.

We would like to thank April, the participating students and teachers, and all of the residents and staff who helped make this project such a success.

During the recent July school holidays, residents, family members and friends came together for a fun-filled Games Night at the St Andrew's Village - Irwin Miller Centre. A special thank you to Jacob, Reid and Nathan from Glendowie College .college for hosting the evening and creating such a welcoming atmosphere.

We were delighted to welcome a group of Year 0 and 1 students from Saint Kentigern Girls’ School to St Andrew’s Village this week—what we hope will be the first of many visits.
Organised in partnership with our Pastoral Care team and led by their teacher, Alley Powell, the girls came to experience “service in action”. With the support of our wonderful SAV Craft Group, they added cheerful pom-poms to pre-knitted scarves—creating something meaningful together for others in need.
These scarves will be gifted during their next visit to Presbyterian Support Northern, to share with families they support.
The morning was filled with smiles as the girls also shared their learning—showcasing their maths skills, reading a story, and finishing with a beautiful song.
A heartfelt thank you to our residents and staff involved who helped make the morning so special.
A wonderful morning shared by everyone involved.
