This week our team had the pleasure of spending time with Hira Nathan, exploring the themes of gratitude, mindfulness, and wellbeing through his book Whakawhetai: Gratitude.

It was a great reminder to slow down, be present, and appreciate the small moments. Something that’s easy to lose sight of in the busyness of healthcare.

We’re grateful to Hira for sharing his experiences and leaving us with practical ideas that we can take into both our work and our everyday lives. Ngā mihi! 🌿

One year of Soma! 🎉

This week we’re celebrating Soma’s 1st Birthday, and we honestly couldn’t have done it without your incredible support.

Over the past 12 months, we’ve welcomed 679 new patients through our doors and shared 3,772 appointments with our amazing community — helping people recover from injuries, return to sport, feel stronger, and get back to doing what they love. Those numbers represent thousands of conversations, rehab sessions, wins, setbacks, laughs, and little milestones along the way, and we feel incredibly grateful to be part of each person’s journey.

What started as a one-woman band has grown into an incredible team, and we’re so grateful to have our superstar physios — Georgia, Tayla, and Rosie — who each bring so much care, knowledge, and energy to Soma every day. We truly couldn’t do what we do without them 💜

To celebrate our first birthday, we’re giving back with a special Birthday Week Giveaway! 🎁

HOW TO ENTER:

✨ Attend a physiotherapy appointment during our Birthday Week and pop your name in the giveaway box at reception.

OR

⭐ Not booked in this week? You can still enter by giving us an Insta shout out or leaving us a Google Review during our Birthday Week.

Thank you for being part of our first year — whether you’ve visited once or have been with us since day one. We can’t wait to see what year two brings 🥂

Upper back tight from too much time at your desk? If your shoulders feel stiff and your posture’s taken a hit, it’s time to open up that thoracic spine and release some built-up tension.

Try this flow:
• Thoracic extension on foam roller
• Pec/shoulder stretch on box
• Thread the needle (with + without rotation)
• Lat release + rotation on foam roller

A few minutes a day can make a big difference in how you move and feel 🫶🏼

Save this for your next work break!

Everyone talks about the pelvic floor… but do you actually know what it does? 🤔

Your pelvic floor is a group of muscles that sit at the base of your pelvis like a supportive hammock.

These muscles help to:
♡ Support your bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs.
♡ Control bladder and bowel function.
♡ Assist with s*xual function.
♡ Support your core and breathing.
♡ Help manage pressure through the abdomen during lifting, coughing, and exercise.

Pelvic floor muscles can become weak, overactive, or uncoordinated due to:
✨ Pregnancy and birth
✨ Menopause
✨ Surgery (including hysterectomy)
✨ Heavy lifting and high-impact sport
✨ Chronic constipation or straining
✨ Persistent coughing
✨ Aging
✨ Pelvic pain conditions

When these muscles aren’t working well, symptoms can include:
🔴 Leaking urine
🔴 Urgency or frequency
🔴 Pelvic heaviness or prolapse symptoms
🔴 Pain with s*x
🔴 Pelvic pain
🔴 Difficulty emptying bladder or bowels

Pelvic Health Physio can help by:
✔️ Assessing how your pelvic floor is functioning
✔️ Teaching the right exercises (not always just “squeezes”!)
✔️ Helping with bladder and bowel habits
✔️ Supporting return to exercise and lifting
✔️ Managing prolapse, pelvic pain, and post-surgical recovery

Pelvic floor issues are common but they are treatable and are not something you just have to “put up with.” 🫶🏼

Book a pelvic health appointment with Georgia or Rosie if any of the above sounds like something you’re experiencing - we are here to help!
