Eyelid twitches are common and usually harmless, although they can be irritating or sometimes embarrassing. The eyelids contain more fast-twitch muscle fibres than almost anywhere else in the body, making them especially sensitive to stress, fatigue, caffeine, eye strain, or changes in general health. When the body is run down or under strain, these tiny muscle fibres can contract unpredictably, causing noticeable twitching. Most eyelid twitches settle on their own within a few days, although in some cases they may persist for several weeks.
There are common causes that should be addressed first in order to relieve an eye twitch:
~ ๐ง๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐: If youโre tired, give yourself a well-deserved break.
~ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป: If you feel eye strain, you could have an underlying eye issue like farsightedness, nearsightedness, or astigmatism.
~ ๐๐ฟ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ: If you have dry eyes you could have a tear film imbalance, a lid abnormality, a low-grade bacterial infection or if you wear contacts a deposit buildup.

If your eyelid twitch persists for more than a few days, book an appointment with your optometrist or give us a call to determine if there is any underlying causes.
