Not sure what hearing support could cost? You are not alone. 💙

For many people, price uncertainty can make it harder to take the first step. A hearing test is a practical way to understand your hearing, your options and what the next step may involve.

We offer free hearing tests for SuperGold Card holders. During your appointment, our team can also explain any relevant subsidy, funding or support pathways that may apply to your individual situation. 💬

A hearing test does not mean committing to hearing aids, it is simply a helpful first step.

Hearing changes can happen gradually, and the early signs are often easy to explain away.

You might notice that you are:

👉 Asking people to repeat themselves more often
☕ Finding conversations harder in cafés, restaurants or group settings
📺 Turning the television up a little louder than before
💬 Thinking people are mumbling
😴 Feeling more tired after listening for long periods

These moments do not always mean you need hearing aids. But they can be a good reason to check what is happening.

At Blackmore Audiology, we provide personalised hearing assessments in a calm, local and independent clinic environment. A hearing check can help you understand your hearing clearly, and decide on the next step, if one is needed.

Then you may be eligible for our Community Hearing Initiative. Each year, we provide a limited number of fully funded hearing assessments and hearing aids. For World Brain Day, we’re highlighting a connection many people do not realise: your hearing, balance and brain all work closely together. 🧠👂

After a concussion or head injury, some people notice changes that are not always described as “hearing loss”. These may include finding background noise harder to manage, feeling more sensitive to sound, listening fatigue, tinnitus, dizziness or balance concerns.

These symptoms can affect everyday activities such as conversations, work, study, driving, social outings and busy environments.

At Blackmore Audiology, we provide hearing and auditory processing assessments, including support for eligible people experiencing listening difficulties after concussion or head injury. A clear assessment can help identify what may be contributing to your symptoms and guide practical next steps.

Listening is part of how we connect with family, friends, workmates and the world around us. 👂💬

For World Listening Day, it is worth taking a moment to notice how your hearing is supporting your everyday conversations.

You might benefit from a hearing check if you have noticed yourself asking people to repeat themselves, turning the TV up, missing parts of conversations, or finding background noise more tiring than it used to be.

At Blackmore Audiology, we provide independent hearing assessments and clear, supportive advice to help you understand your hearing care options.

Depending on your circumstances, support may be available through funding, subsidy or ACC-related pathways.

At Blackmore Audiology, our local team can help you understand what options may apply to you and guide you through the next steps with clear, supportive advice.

Wondering how our Community Hearing Initiative works? 🦻

The process is simple:

1️⃣ Check whether you meet the eligibility criteria.
2️⃣ Submit your application online, by email, or in person.
3️⃣ Your application will then be reviewed confidentially by a small selection committee, with decisions guided by clinical and community need.

This initiative has been created to support Marlborough locals who may not be able to access the hearing care they need through other funding options. Before applying, we encourage you to check whether ACC, Veterans’ Affairs, Disability Support Services or another support option may apply to your situation.

Need help understanding your options? Please contact our team or visit us in the clinic. 👋

That sudden blocked feeling after a swim or shower can be unsettling. 💧👂

Sometimes, it may not be sudden hearing loss, it may be water sitting around existing ear wax, making the blockage feel more noticeable.

Ear wax is normal and protective, but when it builds up it can cause a blocked or full feeling, muffled hearing, itching, tinnitus or dizziness.

At Blackmore Audiology, we check the ear canal first and use microsuction and instrumentation to remove wax where appropriate.

Microsuction is different from older ear syringing. Instead of flushing the ear with water, microsuction uses a small suction device while the clinician can view the ear canal, a more controlled, clinically guided approach.

Please avoid cotton buds and ear candles, as these can push wax further in or irritate the ear. 🚫

If your hearing changes suddenly and is not clearly linked to wax or water or if you have pain, discharge, bleeding, facial weakness or severe dizziness, seek urgent medical advice.
