The medal tally is growing at Te Awa... and we have a sneaking suspicion our athletes might need a bigger trophy cabinet by the time the Commonwealth Games are over! 🥇😄

Congratulations to our latest gold medallists:
🏅 Indoor Bowls – Sally & Margaret, and Joyce & Marianne, who bowled their way to victory for their teams.
🏅 Shot Put – Margaret, Tony and Lorraine showed everyone how it's done.
🏅 Javelin – Tony claimed Gold, Lorraine took Silver, and Richard proudly secured Bronze.

The competition has been friendly, the cheering has been enthusiastic, and the smiles have been priceless. We can't wait to see who adds to the medal count next... although we may need to start checking the strength of our medal ribbons! 😉

On crisp winter days, indoor games are always a winner in our Care Centre – and today’s game of choice is Rommy! 🎲

This rummy-style tile game is all about creating matching sets and number runs, with a little strategy, a bit of luck and plenty of concentration required along the way.

Our three players were keeping a very close eye on the table – and possibly an even closer eye on each other’s moves! A lovely way to keep the mind active, enjoy some friendly competition and stay warm indoors. 😊

🐑💕 There was twice the excitement in the front paddock today!

Our newest arrivals – a gorgeous set of twin lambs – made their debut on a frosty winter's morning... brrrr! ❄️

By the time this photo was taken, the little pair had already worked out where the milk bar was, happily enjoying a well-earned drink from Mum while she patiently stood by. 💚

There have been plenty of smiles from residents and staff today as everyone has welcomed our fluffy new neighbours. It's little moments like these that make life at Te Awa so special.

Welcome to the world, you two! 🐑🐑

Winter has certainly turned on the charm! ❄️☀️

We've been treated to sparkling frosts, brilliant blue skies, crisp mornings and some truly stunning sunrises. While most of us are reaching for another layer (or a hot cuppa!), our four-legged lawnmowers in the paddock don't seem the least bit bothered. 🐑

They've happily carried on grazing as if the temperatures are positively tropical!

It's just another beautiful winter's day at Te Awa – where even the frosts know how to put on a spectacular show. 💙

Life at Te Awa is about so much more than having a beautiful place to call home – it's about finding your people. ❤️

Whether you're happiest heading out with the walking group, stretching it out at an exercise class, getting creative with crafts, shuffling a deck of cards, mastering Mahjong, or lining up the perfect shot at indoor bowls, there's a group with your name on it.

And if you haven't found your favourite just yet, don't worry... there's always a friendly face ready to welcome you. After all, it's not just about the activity – it's about finding your community within our community. We think that's pretty special. 😊

Move over Glasgow... there's another Commonwealth Games in full swing! 🏅😉

We're not saying our Care Residents will be ready for a holiday by the time the 2026 Commonwealth Games (23 July - 2 August) wrap up... but with a packed programme of Indoor Bowls, Javelin, Table Tennis, Target Shooting and even a Scooter Obstacle Course, they might just need a well-earned afternoon nap! 😄

The medals may be homemade, the competition delightfully fierce, and the fun contagious, but the determination is every bit as impressive. Over the coming days we'll be cheering on our own athletes as they give it their all in true Commonwealth spirit.

Ready... set... let the games begin! 🥇🎯🏓

There’s always a little friendly competition happening somewhere around the village… and for this group, it’s all about the tiles! 🀄

Each week (Tuesdays 1.30pm-5.00pm) our Mahjong enthusiasts gather for plenty of laughs, a little concentration, and the occasional "How did you do that?!" moment. Whether you're a seasoned Mahjong gun who knows every move, or you've always wanted to learn, there's always room at the table.

New residents are warmly welcomed – come along, pull up a chair, and discover why this timeless game has everyone coming back week after week. Who knows… you might just surprise yourself! 😊 We meet at Arnold Cottage - where it's beautiful and warm on a chilly day.

Many hands really do make light work... especially when there's a pot of hearty Matariki soup waiting at the end of it! 🥕🥔🧅

Last week our residents rolled up their sleeves and got busy chopping carrots, leeks, kūmara and potatoes, helping prepare the vegetables for a delicious winter soup lovingly cooked by our wonderful kitchen team.

Just because you've retired doesn't mean you forget how to wield a vegetable peeler or a chopping board! For many, it's the simple pleasure of keeping their hands in, sharing stories around the table, and knowing they're contributing to something everyone will enjoy.

There's something rather special about gathering together over good food – especially when you've helped prepare it. And on a chilly Matariki day, a warm bowl of homemade soup tastes even better when it's been made with a generous helping of community spirit. ❤️🥣
