If relaxing feels challenging, there's nothing wrong with you. It's not a test you failed or a personal short coming. It's your nervous system doing its best to keep you alert and safe!
Many of us rush into our massage appointments straight from busy schedules, responsibilities, and life's burdens. Expecting immediate "zen" the moment you hit the table is unrealistic and that's okay!
Here are a few things that can help:
•Take a minute to breathe before your session starts.
•Focus on your breath during the massage. Instead of worrying about relaxing, notice the rise and fall of your chest or aim for slow, deep breathing.
• Visualize putting your to-do list in a box and leaving it outside the treatment room. There may be a time to worry about that, but that
time is not now.
•Notice a sensation in your body. The warmth of the table, how you sink in, or the feel of the sheets can anchor you in the present moment.
