There are so many misconceptions around funerals and what happens after someone passes away 🕊
For many families, the unknown can feel overwhelming. Below is our response to some of those myths or held beliefs that simply aren't true:
Myth 1: "You have to make decisions immediately"
For some, death can be unexpected which can result in wishes or plans not being clear or established. Therefore you and your family may require time to work through decisions which we will be able to guide you through in a pace that feels manageable.
Myth 2: "Funerals are all the same and have to follow a certain format"
Here at Gibson Funerals our mission statement and values are centered around no two people being the same and therefore neither should services. They don't need to follow a certain format and can be personalised to suit the family and different walks of life we cater to. We work hard to make special requests happen.
Myth 3: "A funeral is expensive"
Like most things in life, this varies and is entirely dependent on certain factors. Some of these could include flowers, casket choice, venue, catering and whether or not a loved one is embalmed. Ultimately we are here to work within your budget and are happy to provide different costings to suit.
Myth 4: "You have to know exactly what to do"
Many people don't and that's why it is best to engage a funeral director who can gently guide you through the process and help to carry some of the weight during a difficult time.
Myth 5: "You have to embalm your loved one"
No. Not all bodies have to be embalmed although in certain circumstances this might be necessary- particularly where a family is wanting to view. At Gibson Funerals we are proud to offer an alternative to traditional embalming through our natural option.
We believe conversations like this can take away the fear and uncertainty that is synonymous with loss. If you've been wanting to ask a question, feel free to reach out anytime or pop down to see us in person.
