Sometimes the loneliest part wasn’t the fear itself. It was needing someone to help you hold it, while feeling like you couldn’t let them see it.

Of course you learned to carry things alone. And of course letting someone close to that part of you might still feel frightening now.

Healing can happen slowly, with someone who gets to know that child in you and stays. You don’t have to share everything at once.

If you’d like support with this, you can explore my 1:1 sessions and 8-class somatic series through the link in my bio. 🤎

Complex trauma isn’t always connected to one experience we can easily name.

Sometimes it develops slowly through relationships where love and care were present, but emotional safety, attunement, or acceptance were inconsistent.

Because it was all we knew, we adapted without realising we were adapting. We learned to monitor ourselves, hide parts of who we were, manage everyone else’s emotions, or accept unpredictability as part of connection.

Often, it’s only later—when relationships become difficult, conflict feels unbearable, or we no longer feel connected to ourselves—that we begin to recognise the relational landscape that shaped us.

And that recognition can be a lot. It deserves to unfold slowly and gently.

If you’d like support exploring complex trauma, you can work with me through 1:1 sessions or my 8-class somatic series. Details are in my bio.

Trauma healing should never require overriding yourself all over again.

It doesn’t matter what the therapeutic approach is. If you’re being pushed beyond your capacity, rushed into disclosure, or encouraged towards a big emotional release before you feel ready, the healing process can start to echo the same loss of choice that trauma created.

Healing doesn’t need to be dramatic to be meaningful. It can happen slowly, gently, and with your agency intact.

Healing happens drip by drip, not by flood.

If you’re looking for a slower, relational and somatic approach to complex trauma, you can work with me through 1:1 sessions or my 8-class somatic series. Link in bio.

Not every activated nervous system is traumatised. And not every experience of dysregulation means something has gone wrong.

The nervous system is designed to move, respond, adapt, protect, rest, connect, and recover. Complex trauma changes the baseline from which those responses begin to operate.

Healing is not about becoming calm all the time. It is about building enough safety, awareness, and nervous system capacity that survival no longer has to become your default way of existing in the world.

If you’re wanting support in healing from complex trauma through a relational, body-based approach, I currently have limited spaces available for 1:1 online sessions.

We often talk about trauma as though healing begins when we can finally explain what happened.

But many experiences of complex trauma live beyond language and beyond having the words to define them.

Music therapy can create another way in.

Through rhythm, sound, voice, silence and relationship, we can begin to explore what the body remembers, build capacity for emotional expression and experience connection without needing to explain everything first.

Music is not simply something added to therapy.

In the hands of a trained music therapist, it can become the therapy itself.

We’re longing for deeper connection, while becoming increasingly practiced at protecting ourselves from what connection requires.

Because real community asks something of us. Vulnerability. Reciprocity. Effort. The willingness to need and be needed. To show up for one another in the small, ordinary moments of life.

Maybe belonging isn’t something we simply find.

Maybe it’s something we co-create.

If this resonates, save it, share it with someone you want to stay connected to, or explore my 1:1 sessions and somatic complex trauma classes through the link in my bio.

Our neurobiology learns to protect us in ways that shape how we do connection.

Rewiring these patterns isn’t cognitive — it’s relational and embodied and this requires practice.
Actioning relationship in new ways is very scary and uncomfortable. And our protective reactions will continue to surface from time to time.

Yet we require the time and space to try.

Complex trauma can shape our thoughts, our bodies, our relationships, our sense of self, and even what feels safe.

So, of course, one single therapy approach might not reach every part of it.

Sometimes we need to talk. Sometimes we need to work with the body, explore what happens relationally, engage with different parts of ourselves, or use music and creativity when words aren’t quite enough.

This isn’t about one approach being better than another. It’s about having enough flexibility to meet the complexity of the person in front of us.

If you’re looking for slow, gentle and integrative support for complex trauma, you can learn more about my 1:1 sessions and 8-class somatic series through the link in my bio.

Some of us were never directly told that there was something wrong with us.

We learnt it through what kept happening when we tried to be emotionally known.

Maybe our feelings were misunderstood, ignored or treated as too much. Maybe connection disappeared during conflict, or the people around us could only relate to the version of us they wanted to see.

As children, we couldn’t understand this as a failure of attunement. So we made it about ourselves.

And over time, we didn’t only become uncertain about whether other people would meet us. We became ashamed of needing to be met at all.

This is why chronic shame rarely shifts through being told to love ourselves or believe that we are worthy. It developed through relationship, and it often needs new relational experiences to begin changing.

Experiences where we can be authentically known without losing connection—or ourselves.
