Through regular gentle touch, babies begin to become familiar with the sensations they experience in their bodies. Massage helps them notice things like movement, pressure, warmth, and relaxation, supporting their developing body awareness.

Babies are not born knowing how to regulate their emotions and responses on their own. They learn regulation through relationships with responsive caregivers who help them feel safe, calm, and understood. Through your touch, voice, and attention, you provide the support your baby needs to move between different behavioural states.

By watching your baby’s cues during massage, you learn to understand when they are enjoying the interaction, when they need a pause, or when they have had enough. This responsive back-and-forth communication strengthens your connection and helps your baby build the foundations for future self-regulation.

💛 Why do we ask a baby for permission before massage? 💛

It's a question I'm often asked, and it's one of the most beautiful parts of the IAIM (International Association of Infant Massage) approach.

Although babies can't respond with words, asking permission before beginning a massage teaches us to slow down, observe, and respond to our baby's unique cues.

As you become more familiar with your baby's signals, you'll begin to recognise when they're ready to engage, when they need a break, or when they're communicating that they don't want a massage right now.

It's not about waiting for a verbal "yes." It's about building a respectful, responsive relationship where your baby's communication is acknowledged and valued from the very beginning.

One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the knowledge that their voice matters—even before they have the words to express it. 💕

This respectful communication is something we practise throughout my baby massage courses, helping parents build confidence while strengthening the bond with their little one.

Join me for a beautiful 5-week baby massage course, designed for babies 0–12 months and their parent(s).

Over the 5 weeks, you'll gradually learn how to give your baby a full body massage while enjoying a relaxed, supportive environment. Along the way, we'll also cover a range of theory and discussion topics to help you get the most out of your baby massage journey.

After each class, stay and enjoy a hot or cold drink and a sweet treat while connecting with other local parents.

Classes are held in my home, providing a warm, cosy, and welcoming environment with access to facilities—perfect for keeping you and your little one comfortable.

Baby massage classes- term 3 course dates! 🎉

The course runs over the following dates at 10.30am or 1pm class times
•1st class- Friday 24th July
•2nd class- Friday 31st July
•3rd class- Friday 7th August
•4th class- Friday 14th August
•5th class- Friday 121st August

Classes are for babies 0-12 months and their parent/s. Over the 5 weeks you will gradually learn how to give your baby a full body massage! 😊 In the class we also cover theory and discussion topics. Hot/cold drinks and sweet treats are also provided for parents at the end of class to relax and connect with others.

Classes are based in Fendalton, Christchurch, I run the courses from home where we have access to facilities and a homely environment- warm and snuggly to avoid the winter chills ❄️
