It's been a little (very long) while, but there have been a few changes recently. Calm & Co. has relocated to 60 Queenspark Drive (Parklands Shopping Centre) where the Freshchoice supermarket is located. The #80 bus Parklands) stops outside the complex, or the #7 (Queenspark) stops about 400m down the road 😀

I can finally announce that, after a very long process, I have been approved as an ACC Sensitive Claims Provider. I have another week or two to complete all of the final details, but now taking names for people requiring ACC counselling 🙂

It's been a while! Happy 2025 and I hope everyone had some relaxation time over the holidays ❤️Back in the full swing of the year! I've added a great holistic therapy to the more structured approaches I use - Inner Child Therapy. It's all about addressing the subconscious thoughts/behaviours we carry from childhood into adulthood. Quite confronting to recognise those things from our childhood that we hold onto throughout our lives, but so empowering to acknowledge it, put it in it's place, and move on with our life, knowing our true self is in control at last! Remember to be kind to yourself xx

COUPLES THERAPY - What Happens in Couples Therapy?

At Calm & Co. Counselling Services, couples therapy isn't just about talking through underlying issues in your relationship. Each person brings their own unique life experiences into a relationship, for example, different childhood role models of healthy/toxic relationships; different conflict resolution styles; different attachment styles, and negative thought patterns. In couples counselling, we explore why particular issues or conflict cycles keep occurring, and take positive action.

The first step is to identify where on the relationship cycle you are sitting - is the relationship in an 'adaptation' stage, a 'deterioration' stage, or a 'repair/ 'termination' stage? We identify communication styles during conflict - is conflict resolved, and if not, what is it about each person's conflict resolution style that may be creating more challenges to overcoming issues in a positive way? One partner may withdraw from the conflict and not communicate, while the other wants to communicate and resolve conflict straight away. Either way, both partners are left to ruminate about current and past conflicts, and continue a repetitive cycle. Understanding attachment styles can also highlight individual differences in why we may not feel secure in our relationship. And - it's an individual choice - we can look further into how childhood family relationships have influenced the way you communicate with your partner and manage conflict in your relationship.

I offer a safe space for couples to work through any challenges they face. While most sessions are together, some individual sessions may also be beneficial. Couples Therapy has the same fee as individual therapy sessions, there is no additional charge ($130 per 60-minute session).

If you are interested in exploring couples therapy further, please contact Rachel for more information.

Just a mid-week reminder to take some time out and practice some self-care. One way to reduce feeling overwhelmed is to do nothing! Take a break without feeling guilty - self-care is not selfish! Be kind to yourself 🥰

I will be running the 'Overcoming Overwhelm" program again soon - 5 weekly workbooks, starting with some basic body/mind/nervous system information, such as the stress/burnout cycle, our stress response, cognitive behavioral therapy introduction. and basic polyvagal theory to help understand how to regulate the nervous system when in overwhelm. The program then moves into practical solutions, such as identifying stressors/triggers, prioritising, recognising negative automatic thoughts, cognitive restructuring, and exploring which of our senses best calms our nervous system. It was very hard to put the information together in a way that doesn't make your head spin 🤣. For more information, call Rachel: 0204 162 0037, or email: [email protected]
