One of the first real questions doctors ask when exploring New Zealand is whether they are looking at hospital or clinic-based practice. The two are very different.

Hospital roles range from major centres offering strong career progression through to regional hospitals where scope is broader and hands-on responsibility greater. Clinic-based practice is mostly privately owned, with structured appointment times and telehealth and face-to-face days kept separate.

The right setting depends on your specialty, your experience, and what you are looking for. Our team takes the time to understand that before making any recommendations.

If you are unsure which direction suits you, that is exactly where the conversation starts.

There's a version of medicine that some doctors spend their whole careers looking for.

The version where you know your patients. Where the clinical breadth keeps you genuinely engaged. Where your contribution to the community is visible and felt. For a lot of doctors, rural practice in New Zealand turns out to be exactly that.

Working in a rural or regional hospital means seeing a wide variety of practices, carrying real clinical responsibility, and being part of a team where everyone's role matters. Outside of work, rural New Zealand largely speaks for itself.

If you're a doctor drawn to that kind of practice, our team would love to talk through what's currently available across regional and rural New Zealand.

Most doctors who reach out to us are focused on the role, the registration, the timeline. But the questions that tend to come up once things get serious are about everything else.

Where do the kids go to school? Where do we stay when we first arrive? What does settling in actually look like for a family?

These are questions our team is well used to helping with. We support candidates and their families through the practical side of relocation, from finding school resources in the right areas to navigating temporary housing and the everyday realities of arriving somewhere new. We stay in touch well after you land to make sure everyone finds their feet.

If you are a doctor weighing up a move with your family, reach out. The conversation costs you nothing.

Obstetrics and gynaecology sits at the top of the demand list for New Zealand hospitals right now.

Roles are open across both major centres and regional hospitals, and the need for skilled O&G specialists is genuine and ongoing. The doctors who make the move find themselves valued from day one.

Clinically, the scope of practice gives you the opportunity to work across a broad range of cases. Larger centres offer depth.

Smaller hospitals offer breadth. Both have their appeal depending on what stage of your career you're at and what you're looking for.

Triple0 can talk you through what's available, what the registration process looks like, and what to expect from life in New Zealand, at no cost to you.

Most of the conversation around moving to New Zealand focuses on what happens before you arrive. The registration, the visa, the job offer.

What tends to get less attention is everything that comes after.

Once you have started, our team stays actively in touch through regular check-ins and support as you settle in. Over time the focus shifts toward longer-term integration: housing, community, and for those who want it, guidance on the pathway toward residency.

Our relationship with the doctors we work with does not end on their first day.

Zi is an anaesthetist who just relocated from the United States to Auckland Hospital, and when he talks about the difference between the two systems, it goes deeper than most people expect.

In the US, cost shapes everything. Whether a patient goes to the ER, whether an elective procedure gets approved, whether a case even goes ahead, money is always in the room. And then there's the litigation culture. Decisions made not purely for the patient, but to protect yourself. Medicine practised with one eye on the courtroom.

In New Zealand, that weight lifts. Universal healthcare. A less litigious environment. The freedom to focus on what you're trained to do.

Zi put it simply, he's excited to never think about insurance again. In any shape or form.

If that sounds like the kind of medicine you want to practise, let's talk. Register with us and we'll be in touch: https://www.triple0.com/register-with-triple0
