What if we focused on nourishment rather than systematically under-fueling?

The dogs don’t count steps.
They don’t track calories.
They don’t optimise anything.

They simply move, explore, rest and repeat.

There’s wisdom in that.

So much of healing in midlife is returning to the basics:
good food,
daily movement,
fresh air,
sunlight,
rest,
and connection.

Rewilding, not restriction.

Midlife is not the time to eat less -
It’s time to nourish more ❤️

Not another reset.

Not more control.

Midlife is an invitation to understand your changing body and learn how to work with it rather than against it.

That’s exactly why I created Midlife Metabolic Foundations.

A practical, non-diet approach to restoring metabolic health, improving energy, balancing blood sugar, and rebuilding trust in your body.

✨ Rewilding, not restriction.

These aren’t just vegetables.

They’re part of Module 3 of Midlife Metabolic Foundations: Plant Medicine & Gut Diversity.

🌿 We have become disconnected from the incredible diversity of plants that humans evolved alongside.

Yet every herb, spice, vegetable, fruit, nut, seed and legume contains unique compounds that help nourish not only us, but the trillions of microbes that call our gut home.

One of the simplest ways to support metabolic health, digestion, immunity and healthy ageing is to increase the diversity of plants we eat.

Research suggests that people who consume around 30 different plant foods each week tend to have a more diverse and resilient microbiome than those who eat a limited range of foods.

But this isn’t about perfection.

It’s about curiosity.

Trying a new herb.
Adding a different vegetable to the shopping basket.
Sprinkling seeds on your lunch.
Using medicinal spices in your cooking.

As a naturopath and clinical herbalist, I love that the line between food and medicine is often beautifully blurred.

The vegetables in these photos aren’t just ingredients.

They’re information.
They’re nourishment.
They’re medicine.

And sometimes, supporting your health starts with something as simple as adding more colour, diversity and life to your plate.

My free Midlife Metabolic Foundations webinar is now live on YouTube.

Inside I share:

✓ Why so many midlife women feel like their metabolism has “stopped working”

✓ The mistakes I see women making over and over again

✓ The foundations that actually matter for energy, cravings, blood sugar and long-term metabolic health

✓ Why rewilding, not restriction, is the path forward

This isn’t another weight-loss webinar.

It’s an invitation to nourish your body, rebuild trust with food, and understand what your metabolism has been asking for all along.

If you’re ready to reclaim your power in midlife, I’d love you to watch it.

The medicine cabinet in my kitchen often looks a lot like my herbal dispensary. 🌿✨

Today I made my own 5 Spice blend using whole fennel seeds, star anise, black peppercorns, cloves and cinnamon.

The secret?

Gently toast the spices first until they become fragrant and start releasing their beautiful aromatic oils. Then let them cool before whizzing them up in a coffee grinder.

The result is worlds apart from anything you’ll buy pre-ground.

As a naturopath and medical herbalist, I don’t just think about flavour when I cook. I think about the medicinal properties of the plants I’m using.

✨ Fennel supports digestion and helps reduce bloating
✨ Cinnamon supports blood sugar balance
✨ Black pepper enhances the absorption of other plant compounds
✨ Star anise has a long history of traditional use for digestive and respiratory health

This is one of the reasons I love cooking so much.

Food isn’t just calories.

Food is information.

Food is nourishment.

Food is medicine.

Especially at this time of year, as we move into winter, I find myself drawn to warming spices, slow-cooked meals and foods that help the body feel grounded, nourished and safe.

Sometimes the most powerful health practices aren’t found in a supplement bottle.

They’re found in a cast-iron pan, a handful of spices, and the simple act of preparing food with intention.

What medicinal spice could you not live without?

A slow Sunday.

A lucky pine cone at the park, compost ready for spring, homemade oat crackers fresh from the kitchen, dogs running free, watercolours and ink, and a sauna topped off with a ridiculous hat.

The older I get, the more I realise that wellbeing isn’t built from dramatic transformations.

It’s built from small, ordinary moments repeated often.

What was one small thing that nourished you this weekend?
