So as I love writing and I love being able to provide truly good sources of information and hopefully humor to women globally ..I am starting a monthly email all about the joys and sheer chaos of this wonderful life transition they call perimenopause...

I will share information on the latest research regarding staying healthy and active and any supplements worth considering as well as interesting information about what happens in our bodies during this time of life (and why it feels so chaotic)

I will also share more about managing your nervous system and fueling if you are an active women going through this stage. It takes a little more tweaking than before if you want to remain up for it and not in recovery for weeks on end.

If this is something you might like...keep eyes open for the link soon...

And P.s it is written by me, not a AI so expect spelling errors and the like LOL

There are many kiwis in NZ but this one is mine.

Oh how these creatures know exactly how to press all our buttons, but then again we know exactly how to push theirs 😅

Walked out around the bays today. Was a pretty day. No wind. Nice to just get some gentle movement and spend time together.

Must a difficult job being such a dapper finch...ha

So this is a delightful cake and the rosemary in the batter is quite lovely.

I do recommend it.

I do also recommend you bake it all the way through (unlike I did) 🤦‍♀️

It serves well and the yogurt icing or frosting n the US makes it very light.

A delish treat with a cup of tea and a friend..or your own company

Fully recognizing how 'shoot from the hip' this quote is but I have also reached a point where the distance between the thought in my brain and the word leaving my mouth is virtually zero....I am plunging ahead LOL

The Midlife & Perimenopause Factor

It is the magnificent, rage-fueled clarity that comes with midlife and perimenopause. Hormonally and psychologically, the internal "pleasing glue" that used to make you smooth things over, over-function, and keep the peace is completely evaporating.

And I used to feel bad about it but actually..what I feel worse about is, shrinking, or coddling or needing to cater.

We adore the men in our lives, we do and they are loveable beasts in a 100 ways but they also need to cop on a bit when we hit this phase...

I like the term unhinged and I also like not taking any nonsense and I like that I do not have to over function.

This phase is liberating...and yes sometimes we still need a tiny filter too haha

Listen p**p is life...

I know...I know but it is...

Having good ones and having them regularly is genuinely the key to a happy body, gut, liver and hormone balance.

Fiber acts like a big mop that helps to move the toxic hormone metabolites (what's left after detox phase 2 in your liver) And estrogen has the worst of all.

When we hit perimenopause, it all slows down, sometimes noticeably for some women.

It is difficult getting your fiber in and when you realize how much you need to eat, it can be a little daunting and you may feel like a rabbit...

The truth is though that your gut changes and your "gut bugs" also change. They need more fiber to regulate and assist with the clearance of those metabolites.

I built this into the app because I don't have the time to look at labels or hope I am getting enough.

Most should come from fruit, veggies and grains but having sun fiber is good too.

It makes a huge difference.

My gut functions like clock work when I have had enough fiber. But I do keep an eye on it.

Have a look at the last slide for how I built this into the app.

And remember p**p is life 🤓💩

What makes Sérénité Active different from every other nutrition app?

I built it because nothing out there was made for women who are active and navigating perimenopause.

A few of the many features it offers:

It adapts to your cycle — not a rigid 28-day template, and it works even when your cycle is all over the place.

It stops you under-eating (on purpose) — most apps race you into a deficit. Mine has guardrails that protect your hormones, thyroid and muscle, because under-fuelling is how you break the very physiology you're trying to support (trust me..I did it many times)

It handles real life — no barcode, no label, dinner in a car park after a hike? Just describe it and the parser works out the rest.

It's built from your actual body — three ways to set your targets from your real physiology, not a guess based on a 20-year-gym bro (no offence to the gym bro's lol)

It explains every number — no black-box "just trust us." (a huge pet peeve of mine) You can see the reasoning behind every recommendation.

It doesn't obsess over the scale — weight loss is welcome if that's your goal, done safely. But we measure whether your body is working, not whether it's smaller. Like thick thighs save lives vibes..

Built by a nutritional scientist who's living this season herself — and out on the same trails as you.

My periods are irregular now, so I stopped tracking....

Listen..my periods have never been regular except for a couple of years! I tracked them still - it was because I tracked them and my temperature that I realized I was in perimenopause! The last clue was a cycle of 83 days!

This "advice" is one of the most dangerous traps for women in midlife.

When your cycle becomes unpredictable in your 40s (or earlier), standard fitness apps panic, break down, or force you into a static 28-day calendar. But turning off your tracker when your cycle shifts is like turning off your speedometer while driving on a mountain pass.

This is what clinical science tells us:

Your cycle is your 5th Vital Sign: Medicine ranks menstrual function alongside blood pressure and heart rate as a direct reflection of endocrine and metabolic health.

Blood tests lie; cycle patterns don't: Spot blood tests for FSH or estrogen miss early perimenopause because levels fluctuate wildly day-to-day. In fact, clinical research shows that tracking cycle bleeding patterns alone correctly identifies early perimenopause in 83% of women.

The STRAW+10 Markers: Gynaecology uses cycle tracking—not blood draws—as the gold standard for staging perimenopause:

7+ Day Shift: Cycle length shifting by 7 or more days signals Early Perimenopause.

60+ Day Gap: Amenorrhea intervals of 60 days or longer mark Late Perimenopause (or early in some cases)—a window requiring targeted protein leucine triggers and metabolic support.

I built Sérénité Active because active women in flux deserve an app that adapts to their real physiology instead of forcing them into rigid calorie deficits or a male-standard model.

Plus most apps are ugly (I wanted a beautiful user interface that felt like a sanctuary)

Real test - logging my food in Switzerland.

Foreign supermarket, German and French trilingual labels, dried porcini, and Demeter spinach I’d never scanned before—and Sérénité Active found almost every single item in the global database (like 99.5%)

I must admit I probably let out a shriek, these are the details I obsess over as a founder. I'm like..Oh my gosh it works!!!!! Because yes part of me is genuinely still new to code and how it works...

It’s easy to build an app that works in your own kitchen with your local supermarket staples. Although TBH, scanning in EU and abroad was a lot easier than NZ in some ways (Yes I know, we have a lot of local made items that aren't quite on the database but I built a solution for that...)

The real question is whether it works in a Migros or Coop in Switzerland when you’re tired, travelling, and just want to log your meal without a fight or guessing...It did. 🌿

When you’re navigating cycle shifts, perimenopause, or active training on the road, nutrition tracking usually falls apart because software is too rigid or doesn't quite get it. What being a women in flux is all about.

I built Sérénité Active to keep up with your real life, whether you’re in New Zealand, travelling abroad, or just getting through a busy week.

Clinical-grade, cycle-aware nutrition that goes wherever you go.
