One of the biggest lessons motherhood has taught me is that perfection was never the goal.
As a first-time mum, I put so much pressure on myself to always be patient, always have everything in order, always know or find the answer, and always get it right (control freak much? 🤪). Now, as a mum of three, I’ve learned that emotional regulation isn’t about never feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, or exhausted. It’s about surrendering to the season, recognising those harder feelings, responding rather than reacting when I can, and repairing when I don’t.
The challenges of motherhood haven’t changed all that much. But my perspective has. And that has made all the difference.
