Is Pilates just stretching?” 👀
I get this a lot. And honestly, I’m here to change your mind.
Pilates is strength. Full stop.
Here’s what we’re actually doing in a session:
We load muscles eccentrically, meaning we work them as they lengthen. This is one of the most injury-protective things you can do for your body, and it’s massively underrated in most training programmes.
We fire up the small stabilising muscles, the ones that get sleepy and switch off after injury, pregnancy, or just… life. These are the muscles that keep your joints safe and your movement efficient. No other training modality targets them quite like this.
And yes, we use weights. Reformer springs aren’t decoration. We’re loading, we’re resisting, we’re building real capacity.
Pilates is strength through length. It’s not a gentle stretch class. It’s rehabilitation, injury prevention, and performance, all in one.
So if you’ve been curious, or if someone told you Pilates was “just for flexibility”, come try a session and find out for yourself. 🙋♀️
