🪑 SIT LESS, MOVE MORE 🏃

Many of us spend a large part of the day sitting, whether we are working, travelling or relaxing at home.

Over time, too much sedentary behaviour can increase your risk of health problems, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

The good news is that small bursts of movement can add up. Stand while taking a phone call, take the stairs, walk around during a break or get up between episodes when watching TV.

Swipe through for a few simple ways to spend less time sitting and add more movement to your day.

🚦 DON’T IGNORE THE WARNING LIGHTS 📋

The colder, darker months can sometimes leave us feeling a little low on energy.

As winter begins to wind down, now is a good time for a quick health tune-up.

Are you eating well, drinking enough water, getting plenty of rest and finding ways to keep moving?

If you have been putting off a health check, screening appointment or conversation about something that does not feel quite right, consider this your reminder to get it back on the list.

Get in touch with our team if you have any concerns or would like to book an appointment. We’re here to help you head into spring feeling your best.

🦠 GOT A WINTER BUG? PLEASE MASK UP 😷

If you need to visit us and have symptoms of a cold, the flu or another respiratory illness, please pop on a mask while you are inside our buildings. These include:

💨 A cough
🗣️ A sore throat
🤧 A runny or blocked nose
🌡️ A fever
🫁 Shortness of breath or other respiratory symptoms

Wearing a mask helps limit how easily winter bugs spread to other patients and our staff.

Many of the people who come through our doors are already unwell or may be more vulnerable to infection. Keeping our team healthy also means we can keep our services running and continue caring for everyone who needs us.

Masks are available at the front door and from reception, so you do not need to bring your own.

Thank you for helping us look after one another as we make our way through the last few weeks of winter.

🍯 A SWEET SURPRISE FOR OUR COMMUNITY 💚

This one really made us smile.

Someone in our community recently nominated Tararua Health Group to receive a beautiful box of Mānuka honey from local producer The True Honey Co.

Mouse and Tracy from True Honey popped in to deliver the gift and meet Rochelle, Sophie and Kerry from our team.

We wanted to share that kindness with the people we care for, so we’ve turned the gift into three lemon-and-honey stations at Barraud Street Health Centre, Dannevirke Acute Care and Dannevirke Community Hospital.

We may not know who nominated us, but we would like to say a heartfelt thank you. It was such a thoughtful gesture and another lovely reminder of the community spirit we are fortunate to have here in the Tararua District.

Thank you also to the wonderful team at The True Honey Co. You can learn more about them here 👉 https://truehoney.co.nz/

📢 A QUICK ULTRASOUND UPDATE (17 AUGUST) ⚠️

It seems we still cannot catch a break from the winter bugs. With another member of our team away sick, our ultrasound service at Dannevirke Community Hospital will be closed today.

The good news is that our X-ray department remains open and is operating as usual.

We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

🙋‍♀️ WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK: FITNESS & NUTRITION 🌿

This week is Te Wiki Hauora Wāhine (Women’s Health Week).

We’re finishing the week by focusing on fitness, nutrition and the everyday habits that support good health.

Looking after your health does not have to mean changing everything at once. Moving your body regularly, eating a variety of nourishing foods, getting enough sleep and making time to recharge can all support your physical and mental wellbeing.

Small, realistic changes are often easier to maintain. A short walk, an extra serving of vegetables or an earlier bedtime can be a worthwhile place to start.

If you would like support with your health, nutrition, activity levels or a long-term condition, get in touch with our team to discuss how we can help.

🙋‍♀️ WOMEN’S HEALTH WEEK: SEXUAL HEALTH 💬

This week is Te Wiki Hauora Wāhine (Women’s Health Week).

Today’s topic is s*xual health, an important part of your overall health and wellbeing.

Looking after your s*xual health is about more than preventing infections. It is also about feeling safe, comfortable and informed, and knowing where to turn if something does not feel right.

Pain during s*x, unusual discharge, irritation, bleeding or other changes are all worth discussing with a health professional. Many s*xually transmitted infections also have no obvious symptoms, so a s*xual health check can be a good idea if you have a new partner, have had unprotected s*x or simply want reassurance.

Our team can provide confidential, non-judgemental advice and support. Get in touch if you have concerns or would like to arrange a s*xual health check.
