๐ฟ Art, Connection, and a Little Room to Breathe ....
Ever have those days where you're just completely overwhelmed? Droopy, stressed, and carrying too much weighted thoughts in the mind and body? We sure do, where ferns arrive for therapy and are just completely overwhelmed or worked up.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do isn't to force a quick fix or push on. It's to slow it down, to create a safe, calm space to just reset together. Bring balance back.
One of our absolute favorite ways to help a stressed fern regulate is through a shared art reset:
The "Take Turns" Drawing Approach:
Grab a piece of paper and a couple of pens. Take turns drawing simple lines back and forth. This gentle back-and-forth naturally helps them focus, anchor their attention, and slow down.
Unpacking the Weight:
As the lines hit the page, it creates a safe container to gently unpack whatever is sitting heavy on top. Let it all flow when ready. Just to be heard.
Tuning into Pattern & Color:
Moving from chaotic thoughts into predictable patterns and soothing colors acts like a circuit breaker for stress.
Modeling the Rhythm:
As you sit opposite, itโs the perfect, quiet opportunity to model deep, steady breathing. Before you know it, they are tuning into the art, their nervous system is settling, and the focus shifts from overwhelm to calm creation.
Co-regulation doesn't have to be complicated, forced or unnatural. Sometimes it just takes a blank page, a shared pen, and the time to breathe through it together.
How do you help your fern reset when they're feeling a bit wilted?
