Nice little take on the TCM view of how emotions affect us👍

THIS IS HOW EMOTIONS AFFECT YOUR BODY:

Your emotions are not “just in your mind.” What you repeatedly feel can influence your nervous system, hormones, sleep, digestion, heart rate, breathing, muscle tension, and overall health.

1. Anger: can keep your body in a state of heightened alertness. Your heart rate and blood pressure may rise, muscles tense, and stress hormones increase. When anger becomes chronic and is never processed, the constant physiological stress can take a toll on the body.

2. Grief: can change the way you breathe, sleep, eat, and move. It can leave you physically exhausted and may temporarily affect immune function and energy levels. Sometimes emotional pain genuinely feels like physical pain.

3. Worry: often shows up in the stomach. Anxiety and persistent worry can influence the gut-brain connection, affecting digestion, appetite, bowel movements, and sensations such as nausea or stomach discomfort.

4.Stress: can affect almost everything. Persistent stress activates the body's stress-response system and can contribute to poor sleep, headaches, muscle tension, digestive problems, elevated blood pressure, and difficulty concentrating.

5. Fear: activates the body's survival response. Your heart beats faster, breathing changes, muscles prepare for action, and stress hormones are released. Occasional fear is normal. Living in constant fear, however, can keep the body under prolonged strain.

But there is an important lesson here:

This does NOT mean that every emotion directly damages one particular organ. Statements such as “anger affects the liver” or “fear damages the kidneys” are oversimplifications. The mind and body are deeply connected, but our emotions affect the body through complex systems involving the brain, nervous system, hormones, immune system, and behavior.

So don't ignore what you feel.

Learn to pause before reacting. Talk about what hurts. Allow yourself to grieve. Rest when you are exhausted. Move your body. Breathe slowly. Spend time in nature. Meditate. Ask for help when you need it. And most importantly, stop carrying every thought as if it deserves your attention.

You cannot always control what happens to you.

But you can learn to change how you respond to it.

Sometimes protecting your health begins with something that cannot be seen on a medical report:

protecting your peace.

In Buddhism, we are repeatedly reminded that suffering becomes heavier when the mind clings, resists, and continually recreates the same painful thoughts.

You don't have to suppress your emotions.

Feel them. Understand them. Learn from them. And then, when the moment has passed, let them go.

A peaceful mind does not mean a life without problems.

It means learning not to let every problem take permanent residence inside you.
