At Skin Aware, we believe everyone in Nz should be educated about skin cancer and skin checks should be affordable.

Research shows that using tanning beds before the age of 35 increases your risk of melanoma by 75%.

Not every skin cancer starts as a dark mole.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) is New Zealand's second most common skin cancer and is caused by cumulative UV exposure over time. It often appears as a raised, crusty or non-healing sore, particularly on areas regularly exposed to the sun.

The good news? When detected early, SCC is highly treatable.

If you've noticed a spot that isn't healing or has changed over time, don't wait. Have it checked by your GP, skin cancer nurse, or specialist.

Spend your workdays behind the wheel?

While your windscreen blocks most UVB rays, it doesn't stop all UVA rays, the type linked to long-term skin damage, premature ageing, and skin cancer risk.

That's why drivers often show more sun damage on the side of the body closest to the window.

If driving is part of your job, sun protection should be too.

✔ SPF 50+ before you leave
✔ Reapply on long journeys
✔ Cover exposed skin where practical
✔ Book regular skin checks

Because even when you're inside, UV exposure adds up.
