People often ask me what happens during a mirimiri session.

The truth is... every session is different.
Not because the techniques change, but because the person does…

Your body carries a lifetime of experiences. Joy. Grief. Stress. Responsibility. Change. It adapts, protects, and holds in ways we often don't even realise until someone creates the space for us to notice. 👀

Mirimiri isn't about forcing the body to let go.
It's about meeting it with enough presence that it no longer feels the need to hold on so tightly.

This video captures movement, but what it can't capture is the relationship.

The trust that forms.
The listening that takes place.
The moments of stillness between each technique.

The conversations that happen without words.
For me, this mahi has never been about simply treating the body.

It's about honouring the person within it.
Perhaps that's why no two sessions are ever the same.

And maybe... that's exactly how it should be….

Just a little update for our beautiful community. 🤍

With the school holidays fast approaching, my clinic hours will be changing slightly over the next couple of weeks.

I am also a mama, and these holidays are a chance for me to slow down, be present, and make memories with my tamariki too.

Thank you for always understanding and supporting this balance. Caring for my whānau allows me to return to this mahi feeling grounded and able to give my best to those who walk through my door.

If you’re hoping to book in during the holidays, please check my updated hours in the photo below and secure your appointment early, as spaces will be a little more limited.

Ngā mihi for your continued support and aroha. I look forward to seeing those who are booked in, and I hope everyone has a safe, restful, and joy-filled school holiday. 🤍

There is something powerful that happens when people gather with a shared intention. Not because everyone carries the same story, but because everyone is willing to honour the one they bring.

Today's Mirimiri Wānanga at Ngātapa Marae, alongside Huarahi Pai Rehab, wasn't simply about receiving a treatment. It was about returning to practices that remind us how to listen, how to be present, and how to care for ourselves and each other in ways our tūpuna always understood.

Mirimiri teaches us that the body is more than muscle and bone. It holds memory, emotion, whakapapa, and wairua. When we create spaces that are safe, respectful, and grounded in tikanga, people often reconnect with parts of themselves they didn't realise had become distant.

This is the heart of Te Amotawa Healing.
Creating spaces where healing is not something that is given, but something that is remembered. Where people leave not because they have been "fixed," but because they have reconnected with the strength, wisdom, and mauri that has always lived within them.

Ngā mihi to those who came with an open heart and trusted the kaupapa. He taonga te noho tahi.

Some things are carried on the skin.
Some things are carried in the spirit.
And sometimes, they become one and the same.

For two years, Manawaroa has travelled with me. Not simply as a moko, but as a reminder of the spaces between grief and healing, remembrance and purpose, holding on and letting go.

Born from a season of loss, it has become a compass.

A quiet reminder that those we love never truly leave us. They continue to shape the way we walk, the way we serve, and the way we understand ourselves.

The older I become, the more I realise that strength is not found in carrying everything. Strength is knowing what belongs to you and what does not. Knowing how to stand in the presence of pain without allowing it to take up residence within you. Knowing how to remain open while staying grounded. Knowing how to honour the stories entrusted to you without becoming tangled in them.

For me, Manawaroa is an expression of that understanding. A commitment to walk with one foot in the wisdom of those who came before me and the other in service to those who are yet to come. To remain connected to the heavens above and the earth below. To be a vessel, not a container. To allow life to move through me rather than settle within me.

Two years on, I see Manawaroa less as something I wear and more as something I practise.

A way of being.
A way of remembering.
A way of staying clear enough to hear the voices of my tūpuna, while remaining present enough to serve the people standing in front of me.

Manawaroa.
Not just enduring.
Continuing.

E rere ana nga mihi kia koe Loui Tuhaka nahau I whakatinana oku wawata katoa I roto I a MANAWAROA 🤍

When two people meet in healing, it is never just two people in the room. Whakapapa, tūpuna, wairua, and generations of knowledge stand alongside us. Karakia helps us acknowledge, honour, and safely navigate that sacred space.

Before any healing begins, I take time to enter into karakia. More than a tradition, it is an intentional act of connection, protection, and preparation for those who are present.

Karakia acknowledges the ancestral lines that meet in that moment two journeys, two whakapapa, coming together within a shared space of healing. It creates a foundation of safety, balance, and respect, allowing us to be fully present with ourselves, each other, and the healing process.

It also reminds us that healing extends beyond the physical. There are realms of spirit, ancestry, memory, and connection that exist beyond what we can see, yet still play an important role in our wellbeing.

For me, karakia opens the doorway, safeguards the journey, and honours both the seen and unseen aspects of healing.

✨ There are some forms of healing that don't require words.

No advice.
No conversation.
No need to explain what you're carrying.
Just sound.

For generations, our ancestors understood that vibration, frequency, and voice could shift the atmosphere around us and within us. Sound has the ability to reach places that language sometimes cannot.

The Marakihou carries a unique resonance. Some describe it as ancient. Others as familiar. Many simply close their eyes and allow themselves to receive whatever is needed in that moment.

Each person experiences it differently, yet the invitation remains the same:

To be still.
To listen.
To remember.

What do you feel when you hear the call of the Marakihou?
