Sound Care Moments | August at Steele Park Home 💙

Sometimes one small gesture says a lot about life in a home.

Ahead of Carers Day, one of our residents asked during church service if the carers at Steele Park could be included in the prayers. Later in the week, residents cheered them on during the celebrations as we recognised the people who care for our whānau each day.

We also travelled a little further from home without leaving Hamilton! Our Armchair Travel to India brought residents, staff and families together to learn about India Independence Day, share stories and enjoy samosas, banana fritters, masala chai and more. The food went down so well, there were even requests to see some of it on the menu.

A little appreciation, a little learning and plenty to share all part of life at Steele Park Home in Hamilton.

Celebrating Our HCAs | Meet Jasmin Bonita

This HCA Day, we’re proud to recognise Maria Jasmine “Jasmin” Bonita from Steele Park Home, an HCA whose commitment to providing compassionate and attentive care continues to be recognised by those around her.

Jasmin was strongly nominated by her colleagues for the genuine care and attention she gives to our residents. She is known for being observant of their individual needs, taking initiative, and paying attention to the small details that help residents feel comfortable, well cared for and respected.
Her colleagues speak about her kindness, gentle approach and willingness to go above and beyond. Whether it is taking extra time to listen to a resident, helping with their personal grooming and wellbeing, or simply noticing something that needs to be done and taking the initiative to do it, Jasmin demonstrates what resident-centred care looks like in everyday practice.

This recognition is also not new for Jasmin. Last year, she was recognised as Steele Park Home’s HCA during our CARE Values Champion recognition, and this year, her colleagues have once again put her forward a wonderful reflection of the consistency she continues to demonstrate in her role.
Jasmin also brings a strong healthcare background to her work. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has previous clinical nursing experience, bringing valuable knowledge and experience that complements the care she provides to our residents today.

Jasmin, thank you for your compassion, initiative and commitment to our residents. Most importantly, thank you for consistently demonstrating through your everyday actions what it means to be a great HCA.

Some moments just mean a little more.

Matariki was a real highlight at Steele Park Home this past month. Residents headed out on a short van trip to Hamilton Lake, where they enjoyed the Māori music, celebrated their culture, and joined the wider community marking Matariki together. It may have been a short trip, but it was a special one.

Back home, the simple pleasures were just as popularespecially Ice Cream Day, when everyone got to choose their favourite from four flavours. And an armchair journey through America brought back memories for residents who had travelled there themselves.

Culture, choice, community and a few good memories that was July at Steele Park. 💙
