Perimenopause can bring changes to your mood, sleep, energy, and even your cycle, often years before periods stop, sometimes from your early 30s.

What many people don’t realise is that mood changes can be one of the very first signs of perimenopause, long before periods become irregular or hot flushes begin. Because symptoms can appear gradually and feel different for everyone, it’s not always easy to recognise what’s happening.

Swipe through to learn about some common perimenopausal symptoms and what they can feel like.

If things feel different to how they used to, it’s okay to ask why. If you would like to book in for a check up, see your GP or give us a call on 07 858 0757 or email us [email protected]

Curious what contraceptive is best for you? Here’s some things to consider 👇

❓ Your lifestyle and relationships

❓ Cost of the contraceptive

❓ Whether you can stop the method yourself or you’ll need to see a health practitioner

❓ What are the possible side effects

❓ The use of your contraception – some people use contraception for hormonal benefits (i.e. heavy menstrual bleeding)

Talk about your options with a GP, reproductive health nurse or with one of our doctors at your next appointment. To book give us a call on 07 858 0757 or email us [email protected]

Did you know these 5 facts about periods? 👀

🩸 Menstrual blood is not just blood! It’s a combination of blood, tissue from the lining of the uterus, and other fluids

🩸 The amount of blood loss varies from person to person but on average, a person loses about 30 to 40 milliliters (2 to 3 tablespoons) during each period

🩸 Periods can affect your sense of smell - some studies suggest that women's sense of smell is heightened during menstruation

🩸 The colour of period blood can be bright red, dark red, brown, or even black. This is usually normal, but if you have any concerns, have a chat to your doctor

🩸 Your period can change throughout your life - factors like age, stress, diet, and exercise can affect your cycle length, flow, and symptoms

Many women delay seeing a gynaecologist, often for very understandable reasons. If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone.

1️⃣ “I’m too busy”
Your health is worth the time. Early care often prevents bigger issues later.

2️⃣ “I’m embarrassed”
These conversations are our everyday work. There’s nothing unusual or awkward about your concerns.

3️⃣ “I’m not in pain”
You don’t need to be in pain to seek advice - many conditions start subtly.

4️⃣ “It’s probably normal”
Heavy bleeding, ongoing pain or irregular cycles aren’t things you just have to live with.

5️⃣ “I’m worried about what they’ll find”
Clear answers are often reassuring and early checks offer more options, not fewer.

If something has been on your mind, this is your sign to book and talk it through. Give us a call on 07 858 0757 or email us [email protected]

Today is World Ovarian Cancer Day, a day focused on awareness, knowledge, and taking care of women’s health.

While ovarian cancer can be challenging to detect early, knowing what’s normal for your body and paying attention to changes can make a real difference. Many women who seek advice early gain reassurance, clear answers, or timely support when they need it.

Listening to your body, asking questions, and feeling confident to check things out are powerful steps in caring for your health.

Awareness isn’t about worry, it’s about information, empowerment, and support 💙

Should you see your GP or a gynaecologist?

Your GP is usually the best first step for:
〰️ Period changes or pain
〰️ Contraception advice
〰️ Cervical screening
〰️ Initial concerns or symptoms

A gynaecologist may be helpful when:
〰️ Symptoms are ongoing or complex
〰️ Pain isn’t improving with first‑line treatment
〰️ There are concerns about endometriosis, fibroids, or ovarian issues
〰️ You’ve been referred for specialist assessment or procedures

Seeing a gynaecologist doesn’t mean something serious is wrong. Often, it’s simply about getting more detailed answers and support.

If you’re unsure where to start, your GP can help guide you, and we’re always happy to support when needed.

If you would like to book an appointment to chat to one of our team, please call 07 858 0757 or email [email protected].
