Carpal tunnel syndrome happens when the median nerve, which runs through a narrow passage in your wrist, becomes compressed. The most common symptoms are numbness or tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often worse at night, along with a weaker grip or a feeling of clumsiness in the hand. The good news is that it is a well understood condition, and for most patients relief is very achievable. Many cases respond well to simple measures like wrist splinting, activity changes or targeted injections, and where surgery is needed, patients often notice the tingling and numbness ease remarkably quickly afterwards, sometimes within days.
