🌞 Did you know getting kids outside is actually AMAZING for their eyes?
It turns out that sunshine and outdoor play do more than just burn energy — they can help slow down the development of myopia (short‑sightedness). Studies show kids who spend about 90–120 minutes outdoors each day have a much lower chance of becoming myopic. The bright natural light helps regulate healthy eye growth in ways indoor lighting just can’t.
One huge study of over 6,000 children even found that adding just 40–80 minutes of extra outdoor time at school reduced the risk of myopia by 11–16% over two years. How cool is that?
And it doesn’t have to be sports or anything fancy — playing in the backyard, riding bikes, walking the dog, jumping on the trampoline… it all counts! Plus, big research reviews confirm that more outdoor time helps slow down myopia progression too.
So if you needed another reason to tell the kids, “Go play outside!” — this is a pretty good one. 👀💚
Healthy eyes + fresh air = win‑win!

👀 Why is your child's vision so important?

Did you know that around 80% of a child's learning is visual?

From reading and writing to using computers and seeing the whiteboard, clear and comfortable vision plays a vital role in helping children learn with confidence. If a child isn't seeing clearly, everyday classroom tasks can become much more difficult, affecting their learning, concentration, and enjoyment at school.

A comprehensive eye examination can identify vision problems that may otherwise go unnoticed, giving your child the best opportunity to succeed both in the classroom and beyond.

📚 Give your child the best start—book a comprehensive eye examination with Shattky Optometrists today.

📚👀 Reading shouldn't be a struggle.

While vision problems don't cause dyslexia, visual difficulties can sometimes make reading more tiring and frustrating.
A VisionLink assessment looks beyond eyesight to evaluate tracking, focusing, and how the eyes work together during reading tasks.

If your child loses their place, avoids reading, complains of headaches, or tires quickly with schoolwork, a behavioural vision assessment may help identify contributing visual factors.

💙 Helping children read more comfortably and confidently.

✨ Could Irlen® Lenses Help Your Child Read More Comfortably? ✨

Does your child complain that words move on the page, get headaches while reading, lose their place easily, or become tired during schoolwork? These could be signs of Irlen Syndrome (Visual Stress).

🌈 Irlen Lenses are specially tinted lenses designed to reduce visual stress and make reading and other visual tasks more comfortable for some people.

Potential benefits may include:
✅ Improved reading comfort
✅ Reduced headaches and eye strain
✅ Better concentration and attention during visual tasks
✅ Less sensitivity to bright lights and glare
✅ Increased confidence with schoolwork

Every person experiences visual stress differently, which is why a comprehensive assessment is important to determine whether Irlen lenses may be beneficial.

👀 If your child is finding reading harder than it should be, we can help assess their visual needs and discuss the options available.
