Simplicity

A reflection from today

In a world that grows more complex to navigate by the day,

In a world where everyting has to be faster, bigger, louder, better

In a world were we are robbed of our creativity, discernement and using our own intuition and intelligence by AI and money hungry corporates,

In a world were we dont know any more if what we are looking at or reading is made by a real person or by a machine

Being in that world makes me grave

Simplicity
Grounding
Bare Feet
Sleep
Sun on my skin
Silence
Real connection

I grave the simple life my grandma and her sister lived

Herbs from the garden
A cup of cacao that wasnt ceremonial yet it was just that
Simple food homecooked from the garden
Clothes that were handmade and treasured
One pot of facecream on the bathroomshelf
Living without screens, phones and cars

We moved so fast so far in just a lifetime...

No wonder most of us are exhausted from the collective race!

And what are we racing towards to?

Rest and Simplicity sound like medicine right now.
My heart is asking for both.
I am coosing to listen.
Good night world.

Yesterday I treated myself to a Cocoon session with B and Em and the guiding theme was Kintsugi and how we should embrace our imperfections, the broken and mended pieces of ourselves.

I have always loved the concept of repairing and mending. I still mend garments all the time like my grandma did. I grew up in East Germany where things were not aplenty and got mended. I heard of Kintsugi quite a few times and actually started mending some of the things around the house with gold thread. Cause Gold is one of my favorite colours! Making a feature of the broken bits rather than hiding them...

Before bed I sat down to do a quick sketch (with lots of gold of course) as a reminder that all the broken bits might get infused with the 'gold' from the things we learn when we get broken. I scaped myself off the floor quite a few times in the 52 years I have been around and I am grateful for all the experiences that 'broke' me, because I learnt from them.

The interesting thing was that earlier in the day yesterday I was reading through a diary I kept when I probably was the most broken in my late 20s. Every entry laced with loneliness, confusion, feeling lost, hurt and without direction and just wanting to be loved. How fitting to then explore in the afternoon the gold of all those experiences.

The older I get the more grateful I am to still be around. Its a priviledge to turn grey & get wrinkles and have better boundaries and know myself so well now. I am grateful to still be able to grow, to learn, to now have the benefit from all the stuff ups, stumbles and confusions and the certainty there is always glue, love, time and gold to mend what is broken.

Thank you B and Em for the beautiful practice and inspiration.

Yoga Festival ticket give away

One student from our Heartspace whanau can't make it anymore to the Hawke's Bay Yoga Festival and asked me to gift her ticket on. Its a full weekend pass for Saturday 29th August and Sunday 30th August.

I would love for this to go to a deserving mama or grandma who maybe otherwise wouldn't be able to to fit this into the budget.

I will do a random draw this weekend. Just nominate a person in the comments. Both Facebook and Instagram nominations will go in the same draw. Before you nominate someone, please make sure they would be able to attend for both days though. You can also nominate yourself. One of the most important lessons I learnt as mama was to ask for support when I needed it.

This weekend always fills my cup and the positive vibes stay with me for quite some time. So I am hoping someone is going to really enjoy this treat.

Thank you for helping gift this on.

Mantras, Mala Beads and Chanting

This week we too a trip down memory lane in my yoga class. I hold so much gratitude for my first yoga teacher, who introduced me to so many aspects of yoga. I was not ready for all of them at the time, in actual fact I was annoyed at times when she did dharma talks about yoga philosophy and I just wanted to move. But having experienced and being told about the different practices sowed seeds that sprouted at different times later on and I am so grateful I was exposed to so many different snippets of yoga early on.
The physical practice - Asana was the gateway for me to explore so many other aspects of yoga throughout the years and that learning will never be finished.

Some of the practices never resonated and still don’t. For example I am still not particularly passionate about head and hand stands, perfection in alignment and pursuing super complicated asana, but even those experiences taught me to being able to guide practices today that feel true and authentic to me.

I can still remember the day when my teacher put a CD in her stereo at Shavasana. (It was a long time ago - we didn’t have Spotify and playlists back then…). She explained that we would listen to a very special Mantra and we could just enjoy the sound and the vibration of it in Shavasana. I felt so deeply touched by that Mantra, that after I got home I started researching the artist and her other work and the translations of the mantras. That first mantra I listened to was by Deva Premal, Gayatri Mantra. I think I might even have just found the very video on youtube that brought tears to my eyes when I got home from yoga....

Read on in my substack, incl links to some mantras and more information.

Private sessions

Having 1:1 attention is one of the most beautiful ways of selfcare for me and that is why I love offering these sessions. My private sessions can be tailored to your needs.

YOGA

1:1 Yoga sessions are one of the best ways to find confidence in a practice that really suits you body & needs, especially if you lack confidence to attend group classes, are recovering from an injury / illness or simply want to enjoy the benefits of yoga, without having to fit into a flow that doesn't work for you. Yoga has been my base practice for the past 15 years and its helped me in so many ways. I would love to guide you on your yoga journey.

REIKI

The best way I find to describe Reiki is like an energetic shower. We cleanse our physical body with water and soap regularly, but not many people cleanse their energetic bodies on a regular basis. I gently place my hands on different parts of your body and / or hover my hands just over your body to transmit Reiki Energy. Some people feel energy shifting, lighter, some people see colours or have visions. Its a super relaxing practice and most poeople nod off. I use Essential Oils throughout the energy field to cleanse and strengthen your energy body.

SOUND HEALING

I usually combine Reiki and Sound Healing with Tibetan Singing Bowls. Sound Healing is also an energy healing practice. In my 1:1 sessions I rotate different bowls being placed on your body so you can absorb the beautiful vibrations. The sounds are super relaxing and soothing for the nerveous system and combined with Reiki and Aromatherapy the perfect session for an energetic reset.

BRAINSPOTTING

In brainspotting we work with gazespots for the eyes to release trauma. I have used this practice for myself to release trauma and found it really easy, efficient and non-invasive. If you feel you are stuck in repeatitive patters that are not healthy exploring this option might help you to unlock more ease and joy in your life. Brainspotting can either be done by itself or we can do an integration afterwards with Reiki & Sound Healing where you can process and relax.

I have a couple of spots left this week

Fri 7.8. from 7 pm, Sat, 8.8. from 10 am. $99 1 hr, $133 1.5 hrs.
