We’re wrapping up the week at Howick Views with full hearts and plenty of smiles as we celebrated the International Day of Older Persons! 💚

Our residents from Inchinnan, Minerva, Sale, and Seymour communities came together for a day filled with music, good company, laughter, and a little feast lovingly prepared by our Lifestyle Coordinators. Adding the perfect soundtrack to the celebration, Peter & Dave treated our residents to a special music performance that had everyone enjoying the moment. 🎶✨

And what better way to celebrate life than with a 90th birthday! This week, we also celebrated our wonderful Kay Moore, whose 90 years remind us that ageing well means more than adding years to life, because at HBH, we believe that every chapter of life deserves to be lived fully! 🎂🎉

On their recent bus trips, our Gulf Views residents embraced te taiao, mātauranga Māori, and the joy of discovery! They explored the Māori exhibits at Auckland Museum, connecting with the stories and rich cultural heritage of Aotearoa. And just when they thought they had seen it all, a friendly horse made a surprise appearance by the beach, because every great adventure needs a little four-legged magic! 🐴🌿

These beautiful moments bring our Eden Principle #9 to life: Spiritual growth and continued learning are lifelong possibilities. From discovering culture and history to appreciating the beauty of nature and enjoying unexpected encounters, there is always something new to learn, wonder about, and share. Because age may bring wisdom, but it never puts an expiry date on curiosity, wonder, or adventure! 💚

Today, our Day Club turned purple as we came together to celebrate World Alzheimer’s Day. 💜

Day Club team brought their A-game to make the day extra special for all members. Angela and Arlin filled the room with a music performance, while Heather guided everyone as they coloured and decorated their very own bikkies into purple. 🎶

Alzheimer’s may change what someone remembers, but it can never erase the love they have given and the love they will continue to receive. 🥰

He wiki whakahirahira! We celebrated Te Wiki o te Reo Māori with a wonderful week of waiata (music), māra kai (gardening), tākaro (games), toi (creativity), and most importantly, whanaungatanga (togetherness), all embracing this year’s theme, “Ake, Ake, Ake – A Forever Language.” 💚

At Howick Views, the week began on a high note with a wonderful musical performance from Melody Makers, followed by our residents from Sale and Seymour communities getting their hands into the whenua for some kūmara planting, guided by our Lifestyle Coordinators. There was plenty of fun and laughter too, with residents giving the Māori rakau game a go and adding their own creativity to Māori colouring booklets. 🎨🌱

And what better way to bring our week to a close than with aroha, celebration, and a little bit of magic? Noel and Trish Vaughan from Berwick community marked an incredible 49 years of marriage with a beautiful renewal of vows, celebrating a lifetime of love and companionship. Then, the talented students of Howick Intermediate brought the mana of Kapa Haka to both Howick Views and Gulf Views, filling the room with powerful waiata, movement, energy, and pride. 🎶

From te reo to waiata, from whenua to whanaungatanga, it was a beautiful reminder that a language truly lives when it is spoken, shared, celebrated, and passed on. Ake, ake, ake! 🌿

Here’s to all the Father Figures who make a difference in ways big, small, and sometimes wonderfully unexpected! 🍻

This week, we celebrated the gentlemen who have guided us, supported us, made us laugh, and shared a lifetime of stories, wisdom, and unforgettable moments. At Howick Views, Gulf Views, and Day Club, our wonderful team made sure our fathers and father figures felt truly celebrated, appreciated, and remembered, with fun activities, great entertainment, plenty of laughter, and a special lunch to make the occasion extra memorable. 👔🎶

Because Father’s Day isn’t just about celebrating the dads, it’s about celebrating the memories they’ve created, the lessons they’ve passed on, and the love they’ve given along the way. And if there’s one thing we know, their stories entertain us, their laughter brings us together, and their wisdom? That’s the stuff we carry for life. 💚🥰

Our residents at Howick Views brought daffodils to life through paper crafts, and enjoyed some delicious yellow muffins with plenty of smiles along the way. 🧁🌼

Meanwhile, our Day Programme members got into the fun too, with Heather creating beautiful daffodil stickers and pins for everyone, while staff proudly proved that we really are one in yellow! 💛

These moments capture the heart of our Eden Principle #6: Creating Meaningful Activities, because meaningful moments don't have to be big to matter. So, when the day is over and you look at the stars and see how they shine…. Yeah, they were all yellow. ⭐✨

Residents from across all communities at Howick Views enjoyed a taste of Tongan culture this week as we celebrate 2026 Tongan Language Week. With the help of our Lifestye coordinators and some of our Tongan staff, Ana & Russi, residents learned some basic lea faka-Tonga, explored Tongan traditions, and even discovered the history behind the Povai (a traditional Tongan wooden war club once used by police in days gone by). 👮

The celebration continued with music, dance, and community spirit. Ana's niece shared a beautiful Tongan dance, while students from Howick Intermediate delighted residents with an energetic Pacific cultural performance, and a special church service led by a Tongan minister. 🌺🎶

This year’s theme, “Ko ‘etau hiva, ko e fe’unu mahu’inga ia ki he mo’ui ‘a e Tonga,” reminds us that “Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture.” Through language, music, dance, faith and shared stories, our residents experienced the beauty of Tongan culture while celebrating the connections that bring our communities together. 💚

Howick Views residents recently ventured down the rabbit hole and into a world of curiosity, imagination, and adventure as they took the front seats for a magical performance of Alice in Wonderland, brought to life by the talented students of Howick Intermediate School. With our Lifestyle Coordinators by their side ensuring their safety, residents enjoyed every moment of the show. 💫🐇

It was more than just a play. It was a chance to share laughter, spark memories, and enjoy something wonderful together. A perfect way to reflect our Eden Principle #6: Creating meaningful activity. Because meaningful moments are at the heart of what we do. 💚

Wrapping up the week with a little taste of the Cook Islands at Howick Views as residents from all communities proudly adorned themselves with beautiful 'Ei Katu (a traditional Cook Islands Māori floral head garland or flower crown) bringing together tropical colours, bright smiles, and plenty of island spirit as we celebrated Cook Islands Māori Language Week. 🌴✨

Our wonderful Lifestyle Coordinators, Ana and Grace, guided our residents through the art of making their own ‘Ei Katu while sharing the cultural significance behind this cherished Cook Islands tradition. 🌺

The 2026 theme for Cook Islands Māori Language Week is “Me kite koe i te tuatua i to’ou reo tupuna, e turanga rangatira tena nō’ou no te uki amuri atu,” which reminds us that “With our language as our foundation, we will embrace the future.” 💚
