Spring is beautiful… unless your nose disagrees. 🤧🌸

Warmer weather, blossoming plants and more time outdoors can also mean the return of seasonal allergies and hay fever.

Common symptoms can include:

🌿 Sneezing
🌿 A runny or blocked nose
🌿 Itchy or watery eyes
🌿 An itchy nose or throat
🌿 Coughing

There are a range of ways to manage seasonal allergies, and what works best can depend on your symptoms and individual health needs.

If hay fever is making spring less enjoyable, talk to your pharmacist or book an appointment with your healthcare provider for advice.

💙 Happy Father’s Day!

Today we’re celebrating all the dads, grandads, stepdads, father figures, dads-to-be and the wonderful men who show up, support, encourage and care for the people around them.

We also know Father’s Day can bring mixed emotions for some, so we’re thinking of those who may be missing someone special today too.

From all of us at Onslow Medical Centre, we hope your Sunday includes good company, plenty of laughs, and maybe even a little bit of spoiling!

Happy Father’s Day! 💙

💙 BLUE SEPTEMBER | Let’s talk about prostate cancer

This September, we’re getting behind Blue September and encouraging the men in our community to put their health on the to-do list.

1 in 8 Kiwi men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime, and there are often no symptoms in the early stages. That’s why regular checks and early detection matter.

👨 Over 50? Consider making a prostate check part of your annual health check.

👨 Family history of prostate cancer? The Prostate Cancer Foundation recommends starting the conversation from age 45.

A simple conversation with your GP is a good place to start. They can talk you through your individual risk and whether a PSA blood test or further checks are appropriate for you.

And if there’s a dad, husband, brother, mate or workmate in your life who keeps putting off his health checks… consider this your reminder to give him a nudge. 💙

Book an appointment with the team at Onslow Medical Centre to talk about your prostate health.

Small habits. Big health benefits.

Looking after your health doesn't have to mean making huge lifestyle changes.

Try starting with a few simple habits:
• Go for a 20-minute walk each day.
• Drink more water.
• Prioritise a good night's sleep.
• Eat a few more fruit and vegetables.
• Book that health check you've been putting off.

Small steps taken consistently can have a big impact on your long-term health.

What's one healthy habit you're focusing on in September?

Don't ignore that nagging symptom

We've all been guilty of saying, "I'll see how it is next week."

But if you've had a symptom that's lingering or keeps coming back, it's worth getting it checked.

Whether it's a persistent cough, unusual pain, changes in your skin, ongoing fatigue or something that just doesn't feel right, early assessment can make all the difference.

If it's worrying you, it's worth talking to your GP.

Five signs it may be time for a health check

Sometimes our bodies give us subtle signs that something isn’t quite right.

Consider booking an appointment if you’ve noticed:

Ongoing tiredness
Unexplained weight changes
A cough that won’t go away
Changes in your skin or moles
Any symptoms that simply don’t feel normal for you

Early diagnosis can often mean simpler treatment and better outcomes.

If you’re unsure, it’s always okay to ask. That’s what we’re here for.
