A little behind the scenes at Kaingaroa Plant Lady…

There’s always something brewing, infusing or being experimented with around here!

Lately I’ve been playing around with some new creations, testing different textures and ingredients and seeing what works (and what definitely needs another go).

One of my favourite parts of KPL is getting to grow, learn, create and then turn some of that goodness into products for you.

Watch this space — there are some fun things being worked on behind the scenes.

Mahi today at the Taipa Community Garden

Freed these fruit trees and planted comfrey, bulbs and flowers seeds to try to reduce the chances of the weeds creeping back in.

I’ve started Karate Thursday afternoons so trialing Wednesday mornings to see if that flows

When I say handmade, I really mean handmade.

Behind every KPL product is me — measuring, melting, mixing, pouring, whipping, filling and labelling each batch by hand.

I make in small batches, choose ingredients with a purpose, and keep our formulations simple because I want to know exactly what’s going into the products we use ourselves and share with you.

Made by hand, right here in the Far North.

🌱 New moon yesterday, seeds in the soil today. 🌒

Today is Tirea, the second day of the Maramataka cycle and a lovely day for planting — so I took the hint and got sowing. 😂🌿

Heaps of spring seeds are officially tucked up in the glasshouse, ready to do their thing.

There’s something so hopeful about this time of year… tiny seeds, longer days and a whole season of growing ahead. 💚

Reef sowing his very first packet of sunflower seeds 🌻💛

Tiny hands, big plans. This is the beginning of his sunflower story — from sowing his very first seeds today to, hopefully, selling bunches of his own sunflowers at the markets in Kaitaia this summer. 🌻

For now, he’s carefully planted every seed and tucked them into the glasshouse. Next comes the waiting, watering and watching.

I can’t wait to see him standing behind his own little stall with an armful of flowers he grew himself. 🥹🌱

Have you discovered Granny’s Treasures?

My mum has been knitting and creating for years, and tucked away on the KPL website she has her very own little collection — Granny’s Treasures.

There are now over 30 handmade creations in there, from cosy woollies to one-of-a-kind pieces, all made by Granny with a whole lot of time and care.

And because they’re handmade, once something is gone, it may well be gone!

I realised recently that I haven’t actually done a very good job of showing you all the things she’s been making 😂 so that’s about to change.
