It's such a good feeling to be working hides again!! For the almost year I've been in USA, I've been busy soaking up new experiences and opportunities... Until recently, when I was gifted this deer hide from a friendly hunter. Since working this hide, I've been reminded of my passion and purpose... Reviving ancient craft and ancestral wisdom, honouring the connection to the natural world, and living in a humble and sustainable way.

Hide tanning was my daily hobby back in New Zealand, predominantly working sheep, goat and deer. The critters are different here- c**n, coyote, mountain lion.. grateful to meet some local trappers!

This was my first time breaking a hide in this way.. I chose to use an old cow jaw to help break the membranes to soften the hide.. With carpal tunnel in both hands- girl's gotta get creative!! This hide will be an extra test to my skills- exploring new methods of natural tanning solution as well..

NORTH WEST ARKANSAS HUNTERS & FARMERS: I am interested in fresh hides from deer, sheep, coyote, any animal except cow (too big for me).. Also hooves from deer or goat, and any brains please- I can harvest the brain myself, if you can provide the skull.

Only fresh or frozen hides accepted. Willing to offer to tan an extra hide for you as energy exchange for your efforts. Cheers :)

Aurora in Eureka! I saw heaps of these back in Aotearoa, New Zealand- but this is the first time to witness Nature's painted skies in Arkansas. I can often feel the magnetic energy the night before. Even with the naked eye, the skies were a beautiful scarlet red ❣🍁

Back in Eureka with my best human mates, and the mules! It's such a delight to ride from the house, over the hill and across the border to Misourri into the scenic Mark Twain National Forest..

The old railway line is now a long tree lined path. Secret caves and old silver mines are fun to explore! Even the dogs came out for a wander.. if you look hard enough, the paw paw trees are well in fruit! Also plenty of golden rod medicine to harvest 🥰🙏🐴
