I know I have not been posting much lately and I wish I had the time and endurance to offer more online information and education to my community.
Midwifery, specifically the work as a lead maternity career (LMC) can be very rewarding for the most part but also mean a lot of admin work in the background and plenty of hours of missed sleep we never get back.
While working in partnership with another midwife to support each other and provide scheduled time off for each other, we still manage our own case load and are a one woman show (couldn't do it without you Karien Strydom Orton ❤️)
Last week I had to sit through my midwifery standards review, a session we prepare for every three years, reflecting on our practice.
Every woman is able to leave a review online for us and I had received a not so favorable one, I had reflected on extensively. Doubts had crept up as to my abilities.
One of my take aways from this was that the way I work may not be suitable for every woman out there. While I always feel I am trying hard to suit everyone, it does not always work out that way and it is indeed helpful to get feedback and reflect on it. Women can choose to change midwife too and I encourage everyone to do so if you feel you and your midwife are not a good fit.
But then there are days like today where I feel I am doing it right for some.
This incredible, hand painted cake was given to me today by a wonderful family who I had the privilege to walk along side of for both of their pregnancies, births and postnatal periods, witnessing a couple becoming a family and growing their family a few years later.
Thank you so much! It was so beautiful to be part of your journey ❤️
I'll stay LMC for a little while longer 👣
