As we mark a decade, we're also looking ahead - to Ivy Suites, the next part of the Speldhurst story.

A new development is underway within the estate: Ivy Suites, a collection of serviced apartments. Ivy Suites has been designed for residents who want the ease of independent living with a little more on hand, including access to a theatre, restaurant, pool, and wellness facilities.

It's part of how Speldhurst is growing - giving residents more ways to live well at the village as the years go on.

Ivy Suites is the next chapter, but our focus remains the same as it was from the beginning - creating a place where people feel comfortable, respected, and connected.

A morning of remembrance.

Earlier this year, Speldhurst held its first ANZAC Service. More than two hundred residents gathered to mark the day. Moments like this remind you what a community Speldhurst has become.

Ten years ago today.

On the 24th of June, 2016, John and Trish Sharp turned the key on the first home at Speldhurst. They've been here every year since.

Peter Lawson used to finish a book every couple of weeks. The last one he read took him five years.

"That's because life got busy," he says with a smile.

Peter lived just down the road when Speldhurst was first being built. He and his late wife Yvonne would drive past as the former Kimberley site was being transformed, stopping in to see how things were progressing.

A decade on, Peter is still here - playing in a small band called The Amigos, helping run the Speldhurst Jammers every Wednesday at The George, and finding that life at Speldhurst has, quietly, become busier than he expected.

Then, and now.

When the first residents arrived in 2016, much of what surrounds them today was still paddocks or old, run down buildings.

Ten years on, the same view looks out over homes, gardens, neighbours, and a community that has grown around it. The kind of change that's hard to see day to day, but unmistakable when you look back 10 years on.

2021 and 2022 were the busiest years in Speldhurst's history. In a single year, eighty-four families chose to make this place home.

The George, then and now.

When the doors opened in March 2018, The George was a brand new community centre - the village's first proper gathering place. Today, it's the heart of Speldhurst.

The George Community Centre opened in March 2018 - two years into the life of Speldhurst, and built to be exactly what its name suggests: a place to gather.

It's home to the groups, activities, and catch-ups that make up village life - from music sessions and quilting circles to the family history group and everything in between.
