Empowering children, adults, families and corporate groups by engaging in activity We operate with two Facilitators and our team of horses.

Herd by Horses NZ provides development and learning services to individuals and families in the Horowhenua, Kapiti and Manawatu areas. We use activities involving horses to promote physical, mental and emotional growth. We are passionate about providing early intervention programmes to at-risk groups in the community. Statistics show that children with behavioural or mental/emotional issues are at

higher risk of becoming involved in crime or self-destructive behaviour such as self-harm and suicide. We also run PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT/TEAM BUILDING sessions for businesses. These are a fun, unique way to bring your team together and work on strengths and challenges in an experiential way. Why do we use horses? Horses live in a social herd environment. They are prey animals so they are very sensitive to their environment. They are very good mirrors to our emotions, body language and energy, making them very powerful messengers. The horse gives immediate, honest, non-judgemental feedback. The activities we do are hands on and people don’t feel like they are in a therapy session as such. Horses are large animals and can be scary for some so this can help people gain confidence and trust. The skills and experiences learned from the horses transfer into real life.

At Herd by Horses, we don’t focus on what’s “wrong” with someone. We look for their superpowers. Many of the young people and families who come to us have walked through challenging experiences. Over time, those experiences can shape negative core beliefs — I’m not good enough. I’m too much. I always mess up. I don’t matter etc.
But that’s not what we see.
We see strengths.
The “too sensitive” child may be deeply empathetic.
The “defiant” teen perhaps has strong leadership energy.
The “anxious” one can be incredibly perceptive.
The “shut down” child is probably protecting a very wise nervous system.
When we name these strengths — when we call them superpowers — something shifts.
Posture changes.
Energy lifts.
Hope grows.
Horses don’t see labels.
They respond to authenticity, congruence, and inner strength. And when a young person experiences being seen for what’s right with them instead of what’s “wrong,” it can be incredibly empowering.
Every person who walks onto our property carries superpowers.
Sometimes they just need someone — and a horse — to help them see it. 🐴✨
