🇹🇴 CELEBRATING THE CLOSING OF TONGAN LANGUAGE WEEK – AUCKLAND 2026 🇹🇴
What a beautiful celebration of Tongan language, music, culture and identity at the closing of Tongan Language Week, held on 22 August 2026 at ‘Api ko Nasaleti, Māngere.
A special acknowledgement to Tolutoluhama Inc, an organisation made up of dedicated Tongan language teachers from secondary schools across Auckland, for hosting this important celebration and for the work they continue to do in nurturing our language, culture and identity among the next generation. ❤️🇹🇴
This year’s theme reminds us:
🎶 “OUR MUSIC IS A VITAL STRAND OF OUR TONGAN CULTURE.” 🎶
Our music is more than entertainment. It carries our stories, language, faith, history, relationships and identity from one generation to another. When our young people sing, speak and celebrate their Tongan heritage, they strengthen their sense of belonging, confidence and connection.
It was wonderful to see students and teachers participating from:
Manurewa High School, Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, Ōtāhuhu College, Onehunga High School, Southern Cross Campus, De La Salle College, St Paul’s College, Mt Roskill Grammar School and Kia Aroha College.
We also acknowledge the Guest Speaker, Folau ‘Atuekaho, for sharing with our young people and community.
It was an honour for Rev. ‘Ilaisaane Langi to offer the opening and closing prayers, surrounding this special gathering with faith, gratitude and blessing. 🙏🏽
At Langima’a Oceania, we believe culture, language, faith and relationships are important pathways to wellbeing, healing and strong families.
