Plastic free July, turns the page to "the beaches keep needing us" Aug.

That's a wrap on Plastic Free July — but the mahi doesn't stop when the calendar flips to August.

This month we shared what's actually showing up on our beaches, region by region — we know this thanks to citizen scientists who continue to monitor their local coastlines. We celebrated long-term partners doing things differently, and we talked about why your small, repeatable habit matters even when the bigger systems need fixing too.

In the meantime, the data keeps mattering, the beaches keep needing us, and your next small thing is still worth doing. See you out there!

Too good not to share !

Big news! We're thrilled to be partnering with Jack Johnson and the All At Once community for his Surfilmusic Tour Aotearoa this November 🎵🏄

As part of the partnership, the Johnson 'Ohana Foundation will match every donation made to Sustainable Coastlines between now and 31 December — up to $2,500 total. Double the impact for the moana you love at www.sustainablecoastlines.org/donate

And there's more: Jack's team has given us a double pass to each of his New Zealand shows to give away. To enter, head to our website and share one thing you've done for the ocean this year.

More to come on both — watch this space.

"Ocean protection needs human connection" -

A global celebration coming up for all mahi being done by so many, researchers have invested in science has given us a national hero to allow more people to connect in a meaningful way.

Join us on 1 August to celebrate !

The science is clear: MPAs deliver measurable results for biodiversity and for the communities who depend on healthy oceans.

Endorsed by the , Marine Protected Areas Day is a global celebration of marine protected areas brings together communities, organisations and governments to inspire action for ocean protection. Because when marine protected areas are well managed, marine life recovers.

Mānawatia a Matariki to all, a beautiful day to share beside the ocean, remembering those who passed in past year and looking to a better future for everyone in our coastal communities who are doing mahi to protect what they value 💙

Mānawatia a Matariki ✨ Tomorrow marks the Māori new year, when the Matariki star cluster is visible in the early morning sky.

Did you know that each star also has its own meaning? Among the cluster are Waitī and Waitā, which are worth a special mention as they’re connected to the places we spend so much of our mahi protecting.

Waitī is the Matariki whetū ⭐(star) that watches over our rivers and lakes. Waitā is the whetū for our ocean. Together, they serve as a reminder to cherish and protect our rivers, lakes, coasts, and moana.

Enjoy the Matariki holiday tomorrow — reflect on the year gone, and set intentions for the one ahead. Your favourite place in nature is an excellent place to do this!

The science we need for the ocean and planet health we want, as many of our coastal communities are grappling with climate change local weather events.

Awesome 👌 collaboration, practical steps for local coastal communities.
