What you need to know about the prescription changes and ADHD changes:

On the 1st February 2026 there are two significant changes occurring nationwide for general practice.

Firstly, New Zealand regulations change to allow specially trained GPs and Nurse Practitioners to diagnose and prescribe for adult (18+) ADHD, as well as initiate stimulant medications without a prior psychiatrist recommendation. While Mount Medical Centre does not have specifically trained GPs or Nurse Practitioners in this area, we will not be able to offer this service for our patients but can still refer to those who can.

Secondly, some patients may be eligible to receive prescriptions valid for up to 12 months at the discretion of their GP. This will likely only apply to a minority of patients who are on very few medications for chronic, stable medical conditions that do not need regular monitoring. This will be at the discretion of your prescriber and we ask for your understanding in these consultations. Until 1 May 2026 you will still be able to request a repeat prescription for 3 months as normal (as long as you are not due to see a doctor for review) , however if you would like to discuss if you are eligible for a longer prescription, please book an appointment with your GP. This change does not apply to controlled drugs.

MMH have identified all patients whose documents may have been accessed in this incident.
Direct patient notification from MMH has commenced this week. This was in coordination with Health New Zealand, GPNZ and PHOs to ensure patients receive clear, consistent information and do not receive multiple or confusing notifications from different organisations about the same incident.
